Why are We Seeing Less “Popping” Atomizer Problems?
Most of us who have been vaping for a while know firsthand what it’s like to end up with a popping atomizer. A popping atomizer refers to an atomizer that makes a popping or crackling sound when you take in a pull of vapor, and is often accompanied by spitting, and sometimes flooding of the coil. It’s an unpleasant experience, as it’s the antithesis of smooth and flavorful vapes.
But most vapers will tell you that popping atomizers are becoming less and less common nowadays. This is the direct result of more advanced technology in the vaping world. That’s one of the reasons why you will start to see popping atomizers becoming, thankfully, obsolete.
“Popping” Atomizers: Why They Happen
Well, it can actually be caused by several things:
·A flooded coil is a coil that’s flooded with e-liquid, which means that it’s taking on more e-liquid than the wick can absorb at any given time. This can occur due to multiple reasons such as simply using the wrong coil for your output levels or the coil is dying out.
·Vaping at a wattage that is too low, as it prevents the coil from absorbing the proper amount of vape juice.
·Cheaply made coil or tank.
·Improper airflow. Earlier tank models were known for having poor airflow that interfered with the performance of the coil, thus making the annoying popping far more common.
Why is this Issue Becoming Obsolete?
A lot of the causes for popping atomizers come from issues relating to how the coil or tank are designed, or both.
For one thing, the earlier atomizer models didn’t take into account that vapers would customize so many aspects of their vapes by trying out different coils, e-liquid formulas, wattage levels and so on. And so, they weren’t made to handle such a wide range of adjustments.
Another issue is simply that earlier atomizer and coil designs were primitive, and so companies just didn’t know as much as they do now about things like airflow, wicking and other factors that play a big role in how well our atomizers can handle our needs.
But now, the vaping industry is incredibly advanced, and so companies have developed all kinds of ways to tackle this once-common issue.
Below are the main advancements in vaping technology that are slowly making atomizer pops obsolete.
Tanks Use Better Airflow
We said that airflow is important, because it has a lot to do with how much e-juice enters the wick of the coil. Too much airflow, and your coil is almost certain to flood, which will inevitably cause the atomizer to pop. The good news is that today’s tanks are more advanced when it comes to airflow, as manufacturers figured out that this is a big issue and have developed more technologically sound means to correct it.
Wicking Material of the Coil Matters
The wicking material of the coil plays a big role in whether or not an atomizer will pop, because if the wick gets easily oversaturated due to poor absorbency, the coil will almost definitely flood. Nowadays, companies use higher-end materials for wicks, including tea fiber cotton and other organic materials that absorb e-liquid evenly and efficiently.
Tanks are Made Better in General
Today’s tanks are simply constructed in a better manner overall, which means that they are less likely to give you a disappointing vaping experience. They are made from better materials and allow air to flow through them in a more consistent manner.
Tightness of the Wire Makes a Difference
One commonly overlooked factor is how tight the wire of the coil is. Loosely twisted wires allowed too much air and liquid to flow through the coil. Companies now ensure that the wires are tightly wound to support a better functioning coil overall.
Having a Wide Drip Tips Help
Wider drip tips are good for preventing popping, as they improve airflow and prevent flooding of the coil.
Mesh is a Gamechanger
You’ve likely noticed that most sub-ohm coils are made with mesh material, which helps increase the surface heating area so that the coil is less likely to flood, and so that each hit is generally more enjoyable in terms of flavor, evenness and vapor production.
No More Popping Attys to Disrupt Your Vape Sessions
As you can see, there have been numerous advancements in vaping technology over the years that have largely corrected the issue of popping atomizers. This means that the newer your vaping system, the less likely you are to encounter this once-common issue.
Nowadays, if your atty is popping, it’s more likely to be due to a dying coil or improperly priming your coil before using it to vape. By maintaining your setup as efficiently as possible, you can avoid this type of issue from ruining your overall vaping experience.
