Besides contradicting the government’s previous efforts to reduce smoking-related diseases through harm reduction strategies, the tax also hinders the government’s own Swap to Stop campaign, which encourages smokers to switch to vaping products, highlighted the group.
Moreover, the tax demonstrates a lack of understanding of how vaping devices help reduce smoking prevalence. The NNA argues that the tax will lead to increased smoking rates, hinder progress towards the Smokefree 2030 goal, and boost illicit vape trade. NNA Chair Louise Ross, agreed that higher taxes on e-liquids will disproportionately affect former smokers heavily dependent on nicotine, particularly those from disadvantaged communities.

So, how can you stop your coils from burning out if coil gunk is your main problem? In that case, the solution is actually fairly simple – you should stop using sweetened vape juice. Although most mainstream e-liquids are now sweetened, it’s still possible to find e-liquid without sucralose if you search a little. When you switch to sucralose-free e-liquid, you’ll find that your coils will last dramatically longer before they start to taste burnt.
What can you do if you’re happy with your existing e-liquid and don’t want to change anything? In that case, you can switch to a smaller device such as a pod system. Pod-based devices usually generate smaller clouds than larger vape mods, which means they also consume less e-liquid. The less e-liquid your device uses, the more slowly the residue will form.

There’s no way to fix burnt cotton. If your vape tastes burnt because of a singed wick, the only way to fix the problem is by changing the coil. You can, however, prevent future coils from burning out prematurely by following these simple steps.
·When you install a new coil, always prime it properly by putting a few drops of e-liquid on all exposed cotton surfaces. The proposals look to be some of the most severe and complicated in the world, and will (at least) double the cost of vaping for many.
In this post, we’ll take a look at what’s planned, what the likely impact will be and what will happen next.
When will the vape tax be introduced?
Hunt has told us that the vape tax will be introduced on 1st October 2026 following a consultation. This length of time suggests some of the challenges and complexities faced in dealing with vaping - a challenge that this government may well be grateful to shunt onto a future Labour administration.
What will be taxed?
Current proposals are to tax the nicotine in e-liquid, although zero nicotine e-liquid will also be taxed. The higher the nicotine, the higher the tax:
The average price of a bottle of 10ml e-liquid would change as follows:
·18mg: From £3 to £6
·10mg: From £3 to £5
·0mg: From £3 to £4
A prefilled pod with over 10mg of nicotine would increase in price by 60p, while a 100ml shortfill would increase in price by £10.
The results would make the UK one of the most expensive countries in the world for vaping, with only four other countries charging a higher tax for higher-strength e-liquids.
In contrast, the tax on cigarettes is increasing by £2 per hundred cigarettes and per 50 grams of tobacco. That equates to an extra 2p per cigarette.
What else do I need to know?
If you’re a business, you’ll need to understand that the tax is paid when goods are imported or manufactured, not when they are sold. This will require a huge investment by those vape businesses able to do so.
What will the vaping tax mean?
Smoking and vaping rates
When asked about the introduction of vaping taxes, British American Tobacco (BAT) chief executive Tadeu Marroco said:
“I think that could be a good idea, I think that we need more regulation”.
That gives a clue to the likely impact on smoking rates. In other countries where taxes have been put in place, the results have led to an increase in smoking and a decrease in vaping.
When a vape tax was applied to Italy, it led to a 70% decrease in the number of vapers, and an increase in the use of illegal and imported e-liquid The number of vape shops also fell from 4000 to 1000, costing approximately 10,000 retail jobs.
Research in the USA found that a $1 tax leads to a significant decrease in vaping rates and an increase in smoking rates. (Source: Friedman and Pesko, 2022). A separate study, also by Pesko, found that vape taxes also increase smoking in pregnant women by 6%. (Source: Georgia State University, 2019).
The government hopes that keeping a differential between the price of cigarettes and vape products will deter people from reverting to smoking. However, research by Professor Notley found many young people who smoke do so using illegal tobacco, and already find it cheaper than vaping.
Black market sales
According to Trading Standards, the black market already accounts for one third of vapes sold in the UK. Tests have found that black market products are significantly more harmful than legal vapes.
There’s little research into the effect of specific vape taxes on the black market. However, restrictions in Australia, where vapers are forced to have a prescription in order to vape, have meant an estimated 90%+ of vapers now buy vapes illegally.
Effect on competition
The impact on smaller businesses will not just be increased tax and reduced demand - it’s also the complexity of dealing with regulations, and the need to pay the tax before goods are sold.
This is likely to lead to reduced competition in the market, reducing choice and potentially further increasing costs - in effect, exactly what’s happened in the tobacco industry.
What happens next (and what can vapers do)?
The government is holding a consultation for individuals, organisations and businesses. It’s crucial that we respond.
Let’s also remember the numerous serious threats to vaping, including coming weeks away from a ban in the UK in 2012. Vigorous protest has led to compromises that may not have been ideal but have enabled millions of smokers to switch to vaping.
Once again, there are likely to be protests, including petitions (although letter writing is more effective).
To have any chance of getting a more reasonable tax regime, whether that's with the current government or, more likely, a new Labour government, it’s also key to support organisations like the New Nicotine Alliance (for consumers) and the Independent British Vape Trade Association (for businesses).
]]>Despite being primarily aimed at the beginner’s vape market, the compact tube style Zyon boasts variable wattage up to 25W with “Smart” coil detect and variable airflow control. It also has a refillable pod and uses the newly designed replaceable PZP coil platform.
We will give a quick overview first highlighting the main function of the Innokin Zyon and then jump into the main body of the review where we cover its design, functionality and performance.
Overview of the Innokin Zyon
The Zyon is a compact vape pod kit of tubular design with a 1300mAh capacity internal battery that’s rechargeable via the Type-C USB charging port rated at 5V/0.75A. A long elongated fire bar, very similar to the one on the Kroma Nova we just reviewed, controls the variable wattage of 6.0W – 25.0W and also incorporates a small OLED display.
Variable airflow is controlled by rotating the 4.5ml (2ml TPD) pod in the pod recess which aligns against a single airflow intake slot. The pod has a bottom e-liquid filling port and accepts replaceable Innokin PZP coils, two of which (0.6 ohm and 1.2 ohm) are included in the kit.
Functionality is limited to variable wattage only, although it does have “Smart” coil detect. The display is basic which shows the set wattage, remaining battery status and a puff counter. Despite this simplicity, the Zyon packs a punch in terms of performance from the PZP coils.
Product information on the Zyon is a little limited at present but we believe it comes in 6 different colors, two of which we received (Pink and White) for the purpose of this review.

Zyon Packaging
As is now standard across all Innokin devices, they continue to use 100% recyclable buff cardboard for all their packaging. This also includes the spares which are housed in paper sachets.
The packaging box is a folded lift to open lid with a cardboard insert housing the Zyon. Beneath the cardboard insert are two further boxes, one that contain the manuals, charging cable and spare coil with the other smaller box used as a packing filler.
All the outer surfaces of the box are plain buff colored with the exception of the colored sticker that wraps around half the box to form a seal. This sticker shows the Zyon kit in the color you’ve chosen on the front of the box. The same color wrapped around one side shows the color name and also wraps around the back which has a bar code and the authentication scratch and verify label.
The front of the packaging includes the main features; “New PZP Coil”, “Compact Pod Mod”, “Adjustable Airflow”, “Up to 25W Power Output” and “Intuitive OLED Display”. The reverse side of the packaging includes the package contents, the manufacturer’s details and the relevant safety warnings.
Overall size and dimensions of the packaging are 140mm high x 93mm wide x 50mm deep. As you can see from the photos the two colors we received for the purpose of this review were Pink and White.
Preparing to Use the Zyon
Once you remove the Zyon from the inner cardboard tray, remove the transparent film sticker that’s covering the long fire button bar.
Pull out the pod from the Zyon body recess and remove the yellow protection sticker that’s placed across the bottom of the pre-installed 0.6 ohm coil.
Before using your new coil, gently pull the coil out from the pod base and prime the coil by dripping a few drops of e-liquid into the wicking ports of the coil. Reinsert the coil, open the silicone rubber fill port stopper on the base of the pod and fill the pod with your e-liquid.
When filled, resecure the rubber stopper and reinsert the pod into the Zyon. I recommend not vaping after first filling but to leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes for the e-liquid to saturate the wick/coil.
Switch the Zyon on by pressing the fire bar 3 times in quick succession. Set the wattage to its lowest value and take a few draws, gradually increasing the wattage until you reach your desired setting.
Innokin Zyon Design and Appearance
Zyon Body/Battery
The Innokin Zyon is a budget friendly compact tube style pod device with an internal 1300mAh capacity battery. It’s a variable wattage device operating between 6W to 25W, adjustable in 0.5 watt steps. There are no conventional + and – control buttons, instead the wattage adjustment is carried out using the long black opaque fire bar.
It also boasts “Smart” coil detect to automatically detect the coil resistance and set the recommended starting wattage level. This can be easily overridden if like me you prefer to select your own wattage level.
A small and simple single color OLED display, measuring 0.4 inch is embedded into the bottom of the long black opaque fire bar. The display information is limited and includes a numerical wattage value, remaining battery charge icon and “Innokin” written underneath the wattage value.
When the fire bar is pressed, a vape time duration reading replaces the wattage value and remains displayed for a further 2 seconds after the fire bar is released.
This display, although small, is clear to read and fairly bright. Turning the Zyon on and off is carried out by 3 quick clicks of the fire bar and wattage adjustment is done by 2 quick clicks then multiple presses to reach your desired wattage.
Underneath the long fire bar on the front bottom edge is the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/0.75A. Charging is carried out using the supplied USB-C cable and will fully charge the Zyon in approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. It does have “pass-through” so you are able to vape while it’s being charged.
On the reverse side of the Zyon opposite the fire bar, just below the top of the Zyon body, is a single oblong slot that provides the air intake into the bottom of the pod when fitted. Variable airflow control is carried out by rotating the pod within the pod recess and aligning the row of holes in the side of the pod against the air intake slot.
Made out of Zinc Alloy, the Zyon body comes in a two tone contrasting color semi-matte finish. Its overall dimensions, including the pod are 100.2mm high and 29mm in diameter with the total weight being 90 grams.
The base of the Zyon is flat so there are no problems with it being stood upright. “UKCA”, “CE” and “Bin” logos are screen printed onto the base, together with “1300mAh” and “4.81Wh”.
At the top of the Zyon is the deep pod recess (13mm) which has a recessed flat metal plate that’s sealed with an outer O-ring to prevent e-liquid seeping inside the device. This flat metal plate has a circular cut-out with the two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins within.
When looking inside the pod recess, there are two raised tags just above the flat metal plate located either side of the airflow intake slot. The small protruding tag on the base edge of the pod below the airflow holes will butt against these raised tags when the pod is rotated in the pod recess.
Innokin’s branding is very discrete with just the device name “Zyon” screen printed in small font above the fire bar.
There are no menus to worry about so operation is extremely easy. You can either use the starting wattage that the “Smart” coil function of the Zyon selects or manually set the wattage and away you go. It also comes with the usual safety features such as:

Considering its small, compact, has a budget friendly price tag, feels solid and robust, has variable wattage control, variable airflow and a refillable 4.5ml/2ml pod with replaceable PZP coils, it certainly performs well above its price tag!
Zyon Pod
The Innokin Zyon comes supplied with the Zyon pod as part of the kit. It comes pre-fitted with a PZP 0.6 ohm coil and also includes a spare 1.2 ohm coil. It’s primarily a mouth-to-lung (MTL) pod but opening the airflow does produce a really good RDL draw too.
It has a 2ml e-liquid capacity (4.5ml standard) with a bottom filling e-liquid port, accepts the range of replaceable PZP coils and variable airflow is achieved from the multiple different sized airflow holes punched into the side of the pod.
Innokin have introduced a new range of PZP Mesh push fit coils that fit this pod, two of which are included in the kit:

These new PZP coils are Kanthal A1 Mesh with 2 clear O-rings, 1 at the top of the coil that seals against the top chimney inside the pod and 1 at the base opening of the pod.
We recently reviewed the new Innokin Kroma Nova and this kit included the new PZP 0.4 ohm and 1.0 ohm coils, so between these two kits we’ve covered the whole PZP platform range. Bear in mind the PZP 0.4 ohm coil is rated higher than the Zyon wattage is capable of providing.
Saying this, when using the Kroma Nova with the PZP 0.4 ohm coil fitted I vape around 22W so in theory this coil can be used with the Zyon.
The Zyon Pod is manufactured out of PCTG material with a semi-opaque e-liquid chamber and measures 38mm high including the drip tip and 27mm in diameter (29mm including the beauty ring).
At the top of the Zyon pod is the integrated MTL non replaceable mouthpiece. Strangely it has a removable black ring that slides over the top of the pod and rests up against a raised edge in the pod. I can only describe it as a beauty ring and can assume it’s to protect the pod if it’s dropped.
The bottom side edge of the Zyon pod has 6 small circular air intake holes which when fitted in the Zyon pod recess provide the variable airflow control. Rotating the pod in the pod recess and aligning one or more of these holes with the oblong slot in the Zyon body casing controls the amount of airflow into the pod recess.
If you look closely, beneath the row of 6 circular holes there is a very small protruding square tag. This tag provides the end stops of rotation when fitted in the pod recess. As you rotate the pod, this tag will catch against the two tags (120o apart) in the pod recess and stop any further rotation.
When fitting the pod into the pod recess, for the airflow control to work correctly, the tag on the base edge of the pod has to be aligned with the 12mm long oblong slot in the casing. Difficult to explain but you will understand when you try it for yourself!
On the base of the Zyon pod are 3 circular magnets, a circular hole in the base center that accepts the PZP push fit coils and the e-liquid filling port. This fill port is concealed behind a black silicone rubber stopper that opens from the bottom of the pod in the direction of the arrow that’s stamped into the rubber.
When the stopper is opened the other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod so it won’t get lost. The fill port hole is semi-oval in shape and a pretty decent size (5mm) allowing for most e-liquid tip bottles to be used. This rubber flap can be swivelled away from the oval opening to make it easier to fill.
Innokin Zyon Functionality
The Innokin Zyon is very simple and straightforward to use. Functionality is limited to a single long oblong fire bar that controls the variable wattage (6W – 25W), turns the device on/off and incorporates the small 0.4 inch OLED display.
There are no menu options, just the main display screen that shows the set wattage level, the remaining battery charge and a vape time reading.
The vape time reading is only present when the fire bar is held down and will remain visible after the fire bar is released for 2 seconds.

Smart Coil Detect
Smart coil detect is a function that takes the worry out of knowing what the correct wattage is for any particular resistance of coil. This is a great aid for newish vapers who could inadvertently apply to much power to a coil and burn it out.
The Zyon auto-detects the resistance of the coil you’re using and sets the starting wattage for you. This is only a guide and you can decrease or increase the wattage as you see fit as we’ve outlined in the following section. Bear in mind that you can still increase the wattage above the maximum recommended so do be careful not to burn your coil out.
Starting wattage and recommended power values for each coil type are outlined below:
Increasing/Decreasing the Wattage Level
Press the fire bar 2 times and the numerical power level will flash. While the display is flashing, each press of the fire bar will increase the wattage value in 0.5W steps. Holding the fire bar down will scroll through the wattage levels quicker.
If you want to reduce the wattage level, you have to first take it to its maximum wattage (25W) value then the next press of the fire bar starts at the lowest wattage value (6W).
Screen Timeout
The display screen will remain illuminated for 8 seconds after the fire bar is released.
Vape Cut-Off
Cut-Off is a safety feature to prevent prolonged firing of the device when the fire bar is held. Pressing the fire bar continually for longer than 10 seconds will activate the cut-off. The display screen will start flashing “—-“ and then stop firing.
Airflow
The Zyon has adjustable airflow and is controlled by rotating the pod in the pod recess and aligning the 1-6 holes in the pod against the single rectangular air intake slot in the Zyon body.
MTL and RDL style draws can be achieved by fitting the appropriate resistance coil and adjusting the airflow position as required.

The following safety protections are provided by the Zyon and will display the relevant prompts via the OLED display:

Innokin Zyon Performance
Two PZP coils are supplied with the Zyon kit (0 6 ohm and 1.2 ohm) and both are Kanthal A1 mesh with cotton wick. The Zyon operates in variable wattage mode and also has “Smart” coil detect.
The “Smart” coil detect function is always a handy feature, especially if you’re not sure what wattage value to set for each coil. I always bed my new coils in initially below the minimum recommended wattage level so not to stress the coils too quickly.
Also worth knowing these coils perform very well even below the minimum wattage specified for each coil type.
Note: Unlike some devices that have the “Smart” coil function, the Zyon does NOT restrict the wattage being set for the coil, you can still increase the wattage above the maximum recommended for a particular coil.
Innokin recommend using a 50VG/50PG ratio e-liquid when using the 1.2 ohm coil and a 70VG/30PG ratio for the 0.6 ohm coil. I have tried both ratios through both coil types with no signs of leaking or dry hits.
Both of the PZP coils have the coil resistance and the minimum and maximum recommended wattage range stamped on the coil casing. The 0.6 ohm coil is a MTL/RDL coil and gives a great RDL draw with the airflow wide open. The 1.2 ohm is a true MTL coil and gives a really nice tight draw.
I wouldn’t recommend exceeding the maximum wattage rating for these coils as more often than not I vape under the minimum recommended for the coils with great results.
PZP 0.6 Ohm Coil (pre-installed)
Innokin specify the wattage range for this coil is between 18W-24W. Smart coil detect automatically sets the starting wattage to 20W.
After priming and slowly bedding in the coil, I set the wattage at 6W and took a few draws. Not much was happening and had to increase the wattage to 9W before it started to fire.
Increasing the wattage to 12W started to produce results with the flavor starting to come through but still with minimal vapor. Taking it up to 15W started to have the desired effect and was giving me a nice slow RDT draw with good flavor coming through.
At 18W things were perfect, great flavor with pretty dense vaper. 20W gave just that little bit more of an intense draw. The starting wattage of 20W for this coil is spot on.
Taking the coil to its maximum of 24W kept up really well with no dry hits for the hour or so I was vaping at this level. Reducing the airflow restricted the draw but for me I preferred the airflow wide open.
My sweet spot for this coil was 18W-20W with the airflow fully open (all 6 holes showing).
PZP 1.2 Ohm Coil
Innokin specify the wattage range for this coil is between 10W-13W. Smart coil detect automatically sets the starting wattage to 10W.
Once primed and bedded in with the wattage set to its lowest level of 6W, the flavor and vapor were very good. With the airflow closed the draw was nice and tight. Airflow open produced a wonderful RDL draw and my Watermelon flavor was spot on.
I’ve got to say I love the performance from this coil and prefer it over the 0.6 ohm coil. At 6W the battery should last ages. Taking the wattage to 10W improved the MTL draw and was giving me a really good throat hit from my 4mg e-liquid.
Increasing to 13W does increase the intensity but to be honest I found myself dropping it back down to 8W. Depending on my mood, I’m happy to vape MTL or RDL and this coil definitely works really well with both styles.
The “Smart” coil detect of 10W is about right for this coil although as I’ve said, a little lower than this works for me.
I think the 1.2 ohm and the 1.0 ohm coil I tried with the Kroma Nova are REALLY good MTL/RDL coils. The lower resistance coils are equally as good but if you want to conserve power then the higher ohm coils really do the job well.
Airflow
While the airflow adjustment is a great addition and provides very good control over the tightness of your draw, I did have a few minor niggles with the function of it.
·Seeing the number of holes visible in the side of the pod through the thin oblong airflow slot is not always easy
·Remembering to align the tag on the bottom of the pod within the two tags in the pod recess is slightly frustrating
·When pressing the fire bar with my thumb, my index finger naturally rested against the oblong airflow slot which restricted the airflow
Any Leaks?
Throughout my time using the Zyon there was no evidence of any leaks and zero condensation around the base of the coil and in the pod recess. Obviously as the coils get older leaking can start to occur and this is a good gauge that it’s time to replace the coil.
As with ANY pod, I strongly recommend if you’re not vaping it for a day or longer then remove the pod, otherwise it will leak into the pod recess and cause damage.
PZP Coil Summary
Both the 0.6 ohm and 1.2 ohm PZP coils are very impressive, but the 1.2 ohm topped it for me. Flavor and vapor from both are really good! The choice of coil is slightly dependent on your vaping style although I have to say the wide airflow adjustment caters for all styles.
Longevity of the PZP coils are a little unknown as they are new out. I’ve only been using the Zyon for a few weeks but so far I’ve not had to replace the coils yet.
Innokin Zyon Battery Performance
The Zyon is powered by a reasonably sized internal 1300mAh capacity battery which should give you a good day’s vaping time between charges, or more depending on the coil you’re using. It does come with a nominal charge but I would recommend fully charging the battery first before you use it. Our How to Charge section covers what you can expect when charging the Zyon.
Battery performance is always subjective and depends on the power (wattage) you vape at, the type (resistance) of coil you’re using and your vaping style.
On average I was achieving an impressive 2 days of vaping while using the 1.2 ohm coil at 8W before the battery cut-out. Using the 0.6 ohm coil will reduce your vape time between charges because of the higher wattage needed.
The Zyon indicates the status of the remaining battery charge on the OLED display with a battery icon consisting of 4 individual bars; 4 bars equals full charge, 1 bar equals low charge.
Once the battery runs out of charge (Low Voltage Cut-Off), the OLED display will flash 8 times. At this point, the Zyon will require charging. It does have “pass-through” so you can vape while it’s being charged.
The intensity of the draw remains the same throughout the discharge cycle of the battery, it doesn’t diminish as the battery drains.
How do I Fill the Zyon Pod?
The Zyon pod incorporates a concealed bottom fill port so the pod will have to be removed from the pod recess to gain access to this port.
Once removed, you will see the black silicone rubber flap on the base of the pod. Gently pull this flap open from the bottom side edge of the rubber stopper as shown by the little directional arrow. This rubber stopper swivels around giving greater access to the fill port.
There is also a small fingernail slot between the rubber flap and the base edge of the pod which aids removal for those with no fingernails.
Place your e-liquid bottle tip into this 5mm oval opening and fill with e-liquid. To get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the pod you will have to keep the pod inverted (drip tip facing downwards).
Once complete, replace the black silicone rubber flap ensuring it’s securely fitted and reinsert the pod back into the Zyon pod recess.
Quick Tip: If you are using a brand new coil for the first time, remove the coil and drip a few drops of e liquid onto the wick of the coil first. Push the coil into the base of the pod then fill and leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of your coil.
How do I Change the Coil in the Zyon Pod?
Remove the Zyon pod by grasping the mouthpiece or the pod body and pull the pod away and out from the pod recess.
Before removing the coil, ensure the pod is empty of e-liquid otherwise you’ll have e-liquid spilling out. You can if needed turn the pod upside down and keep your thumb/finger over the mouthpiece while removing and fitting a new coil as this should keep e-liquid spillage to a minimum.
The new PZP coils are a push fit type so you simply pull the coil out from the bottom of the pod. Before you fit a new one ensure you prime the coil first by dripping a few drops of e-liquid into the wicking ports on the coil.
Fit your new coil making sure it’s fully pushed into the coil recess. The flat base of the coil should be flush with the base of the pod. Refit your pod into the pod recess making sure the 6 small airflow holes in the pod align with the oblong slot in the Zyon body.
With any new coil make sure you prime it first and once the pod is filled leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes before you vape so the e-liquid fully saturates the wick. See our guide on Prolonging the Life of your Coil.
How do I Charge the Innokin Zyon?
The Zyon has an internal battery therefore charging is carried out using the supplied USB to Type-C charging cable. Simply connect the cable into the Type-C port on the Zyon body below the fire bar and the other end into a suitable USB power source.
The USB charging circuit of the Zyon is specified as 5V/0.75A so will fully charge the device in approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
When the Zyon is first placed on charge the OLED display illuminates and flashes for 3 seconds. The bars in the battery icon will start to count upwards. After approximately 5 seconds the display extinguishes and remains blank throughout the charging cycle.
Pressing the fire bar while it’s charging will bring up the display screen showing the battery icon incrementing but only for a further 5 seconds.
I would have liked to see some indication on the display to say it’s still charging with a different prompt when full charge is achieved. Full charge can only be verified when you press the fire bar and the battery icon shows four static bars.
During the charging cycle, the body of the Zyon remains cool to the touch. Even though it doesn’t get warm I would still recommend charging this and any other vape mod or pod on a non-flammable surface.
As with any vape device, NEVER leave your mod unattended whilst charging.

The Zyon vape kit has only just being released to market and is currently retailing around the $20 / £15 mark, although I have seen a couple of lower offers online so it’s worth shopping around.
Considering thw cheap price tag, it’s a great performing vape kit and I strongly recommend it! It’s great as a starter kit yet equally as good as a backup pod kit or even your main vape kit.

The researchers utilized airway stem cells from human donors to create a 3D tissue model of human bronchial epithelium, which was then exposed to aerosols from JUUL and BLU vapes, to observe the impact on SARS-CoV-2 infection. The results indicated an increase in the amount of ACE2, a host cell receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in all tissues exposed to the aerosols. Additionally, the enzyme TMPRSS2, essential for the virus to infect cells, exhibited increased activity in tissues exposed to nicotine-containing aerosols. However, some of the chemicals seemed to work against each other.
The research revealed that propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, either alone or with nicotine, can enhance COVID-19 infection through various mechanisms. But, the addition of benzoic acid to e-liquids, which has an acidic pH, was found to prevent the infection caused by propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and nicotine.

Proposed changes to vaping legislation so far
On January 28 2024, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a proposed ban on disposable vapes as well as powers to restrict vape flavours, introduce plain packaging and change the way vapes are displayed in shops. These changes are intended to reduce the appeal and access of vapes to underage people and combat environmental concerns. Sunak also announced a new law that will make it illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009.
These measures are the Government’s response to its consultation on smoking and vaping, launched in October 2023. The consultation concluded that the majority of respondents were in favour of measures to tackle youth vaping, particularly when it comes to restrictions around point of sale displays and packaging.
The potential introduction of tax on vapes
The consultation outcome also says that the UK Government believes there is a strong case to take action to reduce the affordability of vapes. It cites a new duty as one of the options it is considering to achieve this. There have been reports suggesting that this change could be unveiled during the Spring Budget, in March 2024.
The Times reports vape tax plans ahead of Spring Budget
The Times have today, 27 February 2024, reported that Jeremy Hunt will be announcing a "vaping products levy" in the upcoming Spring Budget, with the aim of making vaping products less affordable to minors. This will be paid on imports and by the manufacturers, and will be levied based on the e-liquid in the vapes, with higher nicotine products having a higher level of tax.
Reports suggest this new vape tax will be modelled on 15 similar schemes currently in action across Europe, for example, Germany impose a €1.60 tax on every 10ml of e-liquid, and Italy €1.30. However, the exact amount of tax which will be levied will be announced as part of the Spring Budget, due on 6 March 2024.
As with all proposed vaping regulations currently being discussed, this levy aims to make vaping products less appealing and accessible to those under 18, while ensuring they remain an accessible and viable stop smoking tool for adult smokers and current vapers. Ministers have acknowledged “the need to balance a price increase that acts as a deterrent with ensuring that vaping remains a more affordable option than smoking, to encourage adult smokers to switch”.
In line with this, the budget will reportedly also see a one-off increase in tobacco duty, ensuring that vaping remains a substantially cheaper alternative to smoking. It is expected that the introduction of a vape tax along with the increase in tobacco duty will raise a combined amount of over £500 million annually by 2028/29.
Responding to this proposed levy, Evapo CEO, Andrej Kuttruf, said:
“Evapo is concerned to see reports that the Chancellor intends to raise taxes on vaping liquids at next week’s Budget. A tax increase would send the wrong message to smokers. Vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking, according to the Office for Health Improvement & Disparities, and twice as effective in helping smokers quit compared to any other method. Taxing both in the same way risks muddying that message.
“A tax increase would pour petrol on the flames of the already flourishing illicit market and should only come with a big step up in efforts to tackle the illicit market through increased border controls to stop illicit and untaxed products coming in.
“Over 2.5 million former smokers have successfully quit by vaping, saving the NHS billions in the process, but most started out vaping the highest strength nicotine before reducing and finally quitting. The Government’s proposal to tax vaping liquid by nicotine strength would therefore do the most harm to smokers looking to quit and could lead many smokers to continue smoking, a much worse public health outcome.
"Raising taxes on vaping liquids could also make it harder to supply the smoking cessation market, injecting uncertainty into local authorities’ budgets for smoking cessation programs like Swap to Stop.
“Evapo believes the best way to support the public finances, protect children, help smokers quit, and stop the criminals that sell vapes illegally is by introducing a common sense, evidence-based licensing regime, as was published in Parliament last week. Allowing retailers to pay an annual fee will keep standards high, enable enforcement, help smokers quit, and bring in more tax revenue than the government’s current approach of bans and tax rises."
Responding to the news, the Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA) have pointed out that calls for an excise tax were predominantly aimed at single-use vapes, as a way to make them less accessible to young people and address the environmental concerns about the waste they produce. Instead, it now seems the tax is intended to apply to e-liquids, meaning it will affect those using refillable and rechargeable vapes as well. Not only are these products not responsible for the recent surge in youth vaping, but they are also the products that those who have been using single-use vapes will need to transition to if the proposed disposable vapes ban goes through.
They express fears that this tax on e-liquid will disproportionally affect those products and businesses that are already compliant, and actually have a bigger impact on reusable vaping products than on the single-use products, IBVTA Chair Marcus Saxton explains:
“Applying an excise on liquid refills used with refillable and rechargeable devices would do very little to elevate the prices of products most liable to youth uptake, and conversely disincentivises moving consumers to more sustainable products."
What vape taxes are seen in other countries?
At the moment, we don’t know exactly what vape taxes the Government are proposing. A Government source told the Mirror that the levy might raise the cost of e-liquids by as much as a quarter, and The Times have revealed it will be similar to vape taxes seen in many European countries. We won’t know how accurate this is until we see the budget, but what we can do is look at the taxes that other countries have imposed. For example:
Belgium levies a tax of €0.15 per millilitre on all e-liquid.
Germany charges a €0.20 per millilitre tax on all e-liquid, with plans to raise this to €0.26 in 2025.
Greece has a €0.10 per millilitre tax on all e-liquid.
Italy taxes €0.13 per millilitre for e-liquids containing nicotine and €0.08 for those without.
The USA also taxes e-liquids but the rate varies by state, with some charging a flat rate per millilitre and others taxing a percentage of the overall cost.
In December 2023, Ireland’s Minister for Finance Michael McGrath announced that they were holding off on introducing a new tax on vaping amid fears it might put off smokers who were using vaping devices to help break the habit. Officials from the Department of Finance stated the need for a delicate balance between supporting smokers in giving up cigarettes and protecting young people from vaping.
How might the UK Government tax vapes?
The UK Government charges a duty rate on cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products. At the moment, vapes are currently subject to VAT (value added tax) but under new plans, they may also be eligible for a duty rate in the same way that cigarettes are. Currently, there is an estimated excise duty of at least a £8.46 on a packet of 20 cigarettes.
Right now, vaping is significantly cheaper than smoking. This makes it a viable option for those who are hoping to quit smoking cigarettes, and vaping has been recognised by the Government as being at least 95% less harmful than smoking. The NHS reports that smokers are twice as likely to quit using a nicotine vape compared to other nicotine replacement therapies. There are concerns that a new tax for vapes might discourage people from using them as a tool to quit smoking.
Why would the Government consider a tax on vapes?
The Government’s main aim in introducing a tax on vapes is to increase the price of vaping products like e-liquids and make them less accessible for children. This is in line with the Prime Minister’s plans to tackle the rise in youth vaping.
In the consultation outcome, Creating a smokefree generation, the Government states that it believes there is a strong case to take action to reduce the affordability of vapes. It cites a new duty as one of the options it is considering to achieve this.
In general, taxes are also used as a way of raising money or offsetting the costs of certain activities. For example, the consultation outcome also stated that smoking costs the economy and wider society in England £17 billion a year and the tax raised in excise duty revenue is only approximately £10.2 billion. The excise duty on cigarettes therefore goes in some way towards recouping the cost of smoking to the country.
The Times article reveals that the estimated funds which the vape tax combined with an increased tobacco duty will raise could be upwards of £500 million per year. As part of their ‘Stopping the start’ plans, the Government has announced additional funding of £30 million per year to bolster enforcement agencies like Trading Standards and Border Force, helping them better enforce the law, combat underage sales, and tackle illicit vape trade. They will also be introducing new powers to local authorities to be able to issue more strict on-the-spot fines to those retailers who are caught selling both tobacco products and vaping products to underage people. It is possible that the funds raise by a new duty on vaping products could assist in providing this funding, in addition to reducing the affordability of vaping products to underage people.
When could new taxes or disposable vape bans take place?

If taxes are introduced, it’s very unlikely that it would be before the Spring Budget on March 6th, which is when we expect to hear more about any plans to introduce excise duty on vapes.

What would a vape tax means for UK vapers?
There’s no question that a vape tax would mean that vapers in the UK would end up seeing a raise in prices. The Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA), which is the leading independent trade association for the UK vaping industry, has issued a statement about the proposed ban and changes to regulations.
Marcus Saxton, IBVTA Chair, stated that the vape industry stands ready to work with Government to implement a proportionate regulatory regime. However, bans and higher taxes could make it harder for smokers to quit and even push those who have already quit back towards cigarettes.
Vaping will remain cheaper than smoking
It’s worth remembering, though, that even if a new excise duty is introduced for e-liquids, vaping will still be significantly cheaper than smoking. Especially when using refillable pods kits and reusable devices.
Has a vape tax been considered before?
This is not the first time that a vape tax has been proposed, as a duty on vape products has been raised both ahead of two previous budgets.
In March of 2023, there were calls for a levy to be applied to disposable vapes, but the Chancellor quickly made it clear that this was not something that was being considered at the time.
But the first time a tax on vaping products was proposed was back in 2018, when the Treasury announced a proposed 'Sin-Tax' that would be applied to all vaping products in the UK, as a way to help fund the additional £20 Billion that had been pledged to the NHS.
This proposed tax would have been introduced as part of the Autumn Budget for 2018, and estimates expected it could raise an additional £40 million in funds. However, many were quick to point out that vaping had assisted many of the 2.9 million vapers in the UK at the time in quitting smoking, and that punitive action was at odds with the benefits that vaping could hold as a stop smoking aid.
Many organisations, such as the UKVIA, pointed out that the increasing popularity of vape kits as a way to aid in a stop smoking attempt had actually helped to relieve some of the pressure on the NHS in the long term, so why would we add additional taxes to these products that could discourage people from using them and prohibit the growth of vaping as an alternative to smoking? That growth has clearly been demonstrated, as there are now an estimated 6 million vapers in the UK and smoking rates are at the lowest since records began.
Back in 2018 when this 'Sin-Tax' was being suggested, Andrej Kuttruf, CEO and Founder of Evapo, shared:
"One in every 4 patients visits the hospital due to smoking related diseases. The NHS itself estimates that every smoker who switches to vaping saves the NHS £85k."
We shared the view that increasing VAT on tobacco products would support the NHS both in the short term and long term, by helping to raise the additional funding that has been pledged to the NHS, but also by helping relieve the long term drain on the health service by encouraging people to make the switch to a less harmful and less expensive alternative like e-cigarettes.
Fortunately, plans for the tax were scrapped and the Government has since recognised the important role that vaping can play as a smoking cessation tool, even coming to offer smokers a free starter kit as part of their 'swap to stop' scheme. This recognition has also changed the discussion around a vaping tax that we are seeing today, with the importance of balancing the need to make vaping products inaccessible to minors and the need to ensure they are accessible to adult users at the forefront as a main consideration.

Are there currently any regulations for the display of vape products?
Vaping products are regulated through the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), an EU directive which was implemented into UK law by the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 (TRPR). These regulations dictate things like the maximum nicotine strength allowed, bottle and tank sizes, packaging, and advertising.
However, there are currently no measures in place that regulate how vaping products can be displayed in stores, meaning they can be displayed both at the point of sale and throughout the store in whichever manner the retailer chooses.
How can the display of vapes affect their appeal to children?
Because vapes are currently allowed to be displayed at the point of sale and within the aisles of a store, the manner in which they are displayed can make them not only seem more appealing but also more accessible to young people. With them being displayed at the point of sale, which is the location in a store where the purchase is made, they are in a prominent position which is seen by most customers.
Some stores may also choose to display vaping products alongside sweets and other confectionary products that are appealing to children. By displaying them in this way, young people may see these products as more desirable, and if they are easily accessible on shelves it can also lessen the fact that they are an age restricted product which contains nicotine.
Analysis from Imperial College London has found that the likelihood of people aged 11 – 18 noticing vaping products on display in supermarkets has risen from 57.4% in 2018 to 66.5% in 2022.
What would vape display restrictions look like?
The Government intend to legislate for new powers that would allow them to introduce restrictions on the display of vaping products, and they are planning to hold another open consultation which would help to inform what these restrictions would look like.
However, the previous consultation which ran between October – December 2023 gives us an indication of the kind of restrictions that are being considered so far. One question within the previous consultation asked participants to select which of the following two options they thought would be most effective at deterring underage vapers:
·Option 1: vapes must be kept behind the counter and cannot be on display, like tobacco products
·Option 2: vapes must be kept behind the counter but can be on display
68.3% of participants selected option one, with 31.7% selecting option 2.
The Tobacco Advertising and Promotion Act 2002 (TAPA) dictates that tobacco products cannot be displayed in stores, and so they are often stored in closed cabinets or behind opaque screens. The Imperial College London analysis has found that these tobacco point of sale restrictions have decreased the likelihood of children aged 11-18 noticing cigarettes on display in supermarkets from 67% in 2018 to 59% in 2022.
However, this act does have amendments that set out separate regulations for specialist tobacconists, allowing them to advertise and display specialist tobacco products inside their store as long as they are not visible from outside the shop.
Participants were also asked if they believed that exemptions should be made for specialist vape shops, implying that the Government recognise the difficulty of implementing these regulations in vape shops and is willing to consider alternative measures in this instance.

The vaping industry is definetely not the tobacco industry
Ironically, the vaping industry, which as aforementioned many assume is just a new branch of the tobacco one, tends to be equally against the involvement of the tobacco industry. What many seem to not realize, is that in most cases vape businesses were set up by current or former smokers passionate about finding a nicotine substitute in order to help them and others quit deadly cigarettes. To this effect, they tend to view the tobacco industry as their arch nemesis.
Meanwhile, many experts in the fields of public health and tobacco harm reduction view things differently. When in 2017, prominent anti-smoking advocate Derek Yach joined the infamous Smoke-Free Foundation which was funded by PMI, numerous anti-smoking experts criticized the move, considering the foundation a potential marketing tactic to enhance the visibility and success of Philip Morris’ heated tobacco product, iQOS.
In response, Yach had assured his peers that this decision did not signify a shift in allegiance and that it was driven by opportunity, not trust. “I am not naïve enough to believe that Philip Morris is doing this because of the warm fuzzy feeling that they want to lower the death rates. No. What they want to do is have a product that is less risky and that makes them profits. That is the beginning and end of it,” he said at the time.
To include or not include
While many THR experts agree with Yach, others believe that the tobacco industry needs to be more transparent before it can be trusted. “I think any commercial conflict will quite reasonably cause people to be less certain in the scientific merits of the findings. Making data publicly available and analyses reproducible go a long ways to address these concerns,” Health Economist and Associate Professor at Georgia State University, Dr. Michael Pesko, told Vaping Post earlier this year.
Naturally such alliances remain controversial, and that’s very reasonable. Some tobacco harm reduction experts believe that collaboration with the industry can redirect resources for the greater good, and that despite any potential hidden agendas of the industry, this approach may ultimately benefit everyone. Others argue that partnering with an industry selling harmful products should be avoided on principle.
Altria fruit-flavoured NJOY
Whether motivated by a genuine shift towards conscientious practices or an attempt to improve their tarnished image for business survival, major tobacco manufacturers are now emphasizing sustainability and the goal of becoming smoke-free. Only this week it was reported that Altria Group Inc. is finalizing submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for NJOY vape products featuring blueberry and watermelon flavours.
Altria emphasized it plans to employ Bluetooth technology to prevent underage use, although specific details have not been disclosed. Altria CEO Billy Gifford stated that the company has demonstrated the effectiveness of age-gating restrictions in preventing underage access in nearly all cases.

Ironically, while the WHO openly disapproves of Sweden’s endorsement of snus for smoking cessation, the group’s own definition of smoke-free is one that Sweden is the first country to reach.
In fact, in response to a recent survey from Open Evidence on the national implementation of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), the Swedish Government Offices underlined the importance of Sweden being allowed to sell snus. Minister Forssmed pointed out that a total ban on snus would impede freedom of movement within the EU.
Minister Forssmed’s advocacy for snus as a harm reduction tool aligns with efforts to provide smokers with alternatives that are less detrimental to health. The debate reflects a broader conversation around harm reduction and safer nicotine products, with potential implications for future regulatory decisions within the EU.
The WHO promotes harm reduction, but not when it comes to smoking
In line with this argument, a 2022 GSTHR report urged lawmakers to include safer nicotine products in smoking cessation plans. The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction 2022: The Right Side of History report documented the search for safer ways to use nicotine, and charted the history of tobacco harm reduction (THR).
Detailing the history of THR to date, the report considered ways in which THR strategies could speed up the process of ending smoke-related morbidity and mortality. The Right Side of History went on to explain how the past two decades have witnessed a substantial disruption to patterns of tobacco use, public health narratives, the work of tobacco control institutions and traditional tobacco industry interests, due to the emergence of science-backed safer nicotine products, such as vapes and snus.
The Right Side of History emphasized that to maximize public health benefits and guarantee inclusivity, individuals who smoke should be entitled to access lower-risk products, established as highly effective cessation tools. Despite the explicit inclusion of harm reduction as a princple in the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, its implementation has been completely rejected with regards to smoking. Given recent advancements in nicotine consumption and recognizing the fundamental human right to health, harm reduction can and should now be integrated into both international and national tobacco control initiatives.

My first ever variable wattage set up was an Innokin SVD paired with an iClear 30. I have been a fan of Innokin products for a long time now, with some of my (very) old favourites being the Zenith and iSub G tanks and the Coolfire and MVP kit ranges. So I’m really excited to see what the Kroma-Nova kit can do!
I’d expect it will be a big leap over my old Innokin MVP 3 and Coolfire IV!
What Can We Expect From The Innokin Kroma-Nova Kit?
The Kroma-Nova is another Innokin kit designed in partnership with well-known vaping personalities Phil Busardo and Dimitris Agrafiotis (aka VapinGreek). Utilising their vast knowledge to come up with new and innovative kits that appeal to all.
It is another addition to the Innokin Platform Series that focuses on providing user-friendly vaping kits.
The Kroma range saw its first release around 2017. Although this current version seems to have taken its design inspiration from the Kroma Z from 2020/21.
Original Kroma Z kit
Innokin’s Kroma-Nova kit is an easy-to-use vaping kit that can offer sub-ohm vaping with a Restricted Direct to Lung (RDL) or tighter Mouth To Lung (MTL) airflow right out of the box. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.
A 3000mAh battery is built into the kit, recharged via USB-C and boasts a variable wattage power output range of 6-60W.
If you don’t fancy adjusting the wattage yourself, a Smart Coil ID system will
automatically detect the resistance of the coil and suggest a recommended power output based on this.
Speaking of the coils, the Innokin Kroma-Nova kit is compatible with Innokin’s new PZP coil range. Coils can be easily changed in the Kroma-Nova pod and resistances of 0.4ohm, 0.6ohm, 1.0ohm and 1.2ohm are available.
PZP coils boast a new mesh coil structure and upgraded wicking design to provide intense flavour and improved coil lifespan.
Filling is made easy with an innovative sliding top fill system.
The Kroma-Nova pod tank offers a choice of two different drip tips to suit your vaping style, with a MTL and RDL drip tip included with the kit.
Airflow can be precisely adjusted with the sliding control valve to further fine-tune your vape.

Design and Build Quality
The Innokin Kroma-Nova sports a sleek and lightweight design. The kit is manufactured from Zinc Alloy and sports a Leather grip on the side with ‘NOVA’ embossed on it.
I was sent the Shadow Black and Snowflake White versions for review (thank you Innokin!) The finish on both has proven to be pretty resilient, being pretty scratch and fingerprint proof.
Included with the kit is the Innokin Kroma-Nova pod tank, which is compatible with the new Innokin PZP coils. It features a plug-and-play coil swapping system and an awesome sliding top-fill.
A mouth-to-lung (MTL) drip tip is present which features a narrower bore than the restricted direct to lung (RDL) drip tip that also comes with the kit and is intended to offer an airier draw. Most 510 threaded drip tips are also compatible if you would prefer to use your own.
A magnetic connection holds the Kroma-Nova pod tank in place securely when connected to the device. I haven’t experienced it accidentally coming away from the device. There’s no wiggle either!
Depending on which region you are purchasing the Kroma-Nova in the capacity will change. This will come with a 2ml tank capacity if purchasing within a TPD regulated area or a 3ml capacity if purchasing outside of a TPD regulated region.
The Kroma-Nova device itself features a colour OLED screen, which displays battery level, selected wattage, coil resistance and a puff timer when vaping. A secondary menu can be accessed to display coil resistance, output voltage and a puff counter.
The screen is bright and clear, easily read in bright light as well as the dark and the power button is built in just above the screen.
An airflow slider present on the device allows you to smoothly adjust the airflow, which can easily be done just using your thumb when the device is in your hand.
Built into the device is a 3000mAh battery, which promises to offer all day battery life and is recharged via the USB-C port found underneath the screen.
I love the design of the Innokin Kroma-Nova. I feel that it looks pretty futuristic and appealing, plus it is very comfortable to use and hold in the hand. Also I think it is great just having to squeeze the screen in order to fire it!
Quick Start Guide
Three quick clicks of the power button turns the Innokin Kroma-Nova device on and three clicks will turn it back off.
MTL or RDL
Pre-installed in the Kroma-Nova pod tank is the 1.0ohm coil, aimed at mouth to lung vaping and the mouth to lung drip tip is pre-installed on top.
If you prefer a looser draw, swap the drip tip by pulling it off and replacing with the RDL drip tip. Swap the 1.0ohm coil by removing the tank, inverting it, pulling the coil out by the base and sliding in the 0.4ohm coil.
Airflow | Wattage | Lock Power
Airflow is adjusted by using the airflow slider.
To adjust the power hold down either the plus or minus power adjustment buttons until the wattage begins to flash on the screen then use these to adjust the setting. You can adjust power in 0.5W increments up to 20W, then 1W increments up to 60W.
I quite like the fact that you need to hold either of the power adjustment buttons down to change the wattage. This means your selected wattage setting stays locked in place and you are less likely to have accidental adjustments to it, such as when the device is in your pocket or bag for example.
Holding the power and minus button down will lock power adjustment settings completely off, but you’ll still be able to vape the device by pressing the power button.
Menu Selection
A secondary menu can be accessed by holding down the power and plus buttons and this will display coil resistance, output voltage and a puff counter.
A limited menu can be accessed by holding down the plus and minus buttons. Allowing you to adjust the vaping cut off time from 3 to 18 seconds and the screen display time from 5 to 180 seconds.
Press the power button to confirm your selected option.
Six safety protections are built in, with No Load/High Resistance, Low Resistance, Short Circuit, Auto-Shut Off and Overheating protection.
How To Fill The Innokin Kroma-Nova Tank
On top of the Kroma-Nova is a sliding top filling system, which not only looks cool, it functions very well. It makes filling a breeze without even having to remove the tank from the device!
There’s a triangle symbol and you push your thumb up along this to make the top part of the tank slide open.
It is very smooth and this reveals a large filling port that you insert the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle into to fill.
Just be careful not to get too over-zealous when filling as e-liquid will leak out of the top!
Charging
Underneath the screen is a USB-C charging port and a USB-C charging cable is included with the kit.
Just plug this into the charging port and into a power source and leave it to charge. The screen will switch off during charging so you will have to push the power button or one of the power adjustment buttons to check charging progress.
The Kroma-Nova kit charges at up to 1.7A, meaning that the 3000mAh battery will charge up pretty quickly!
How Does The Innokin Kroma-Nova Kit Perform?
Included within the kit is the 1.0ohm PZP coil and the 0.4ohm PZP coil.
I started off with the 1.0ohm coil that comes pre-installed in the Kroma-Nova tank, along with the MTL drip tip.
This coil is designed for a tighter, mouth to lung airflow. I have found it great to use with 20mg nicotine salt based e-liquid. There’s intense flavour and a very nice draw.
I also gave the 1.2ohm coil a go, from my Innokin Zyon kit and the results were pretty much the same.
My preference was the 0.4ohm coil. I prefer a RDL airflow and this really hit the spot for me.
With the airflow set to three quarters open, the drip tip swapped for the RDL one and the wattage in the 35-38W range, my e-liquids were tasting absolutely unreal.
I get a warm vape absolutely packed full of flavour, delivering all the flavour notes I would expect (and some I didn’t even know were there!). Plus plenty of clouds of vapour. The flavour really is phenomenal here.
I also gave the 0.6ohm PZP coil a go, which comes with the Innokin Zyon kit. This performed really well in the 20-23W range. I actually preferred using this coil in the Kroma-Nova over the Innokin Zyon.
I found that the flavour was a bit more intense in this device, though the 0.4ohm coil was still my preference due to the slightly warmer vape that I got!
Airflow Settings | Vapour Production
When fully open, the airflow provides quite a loose restricted direct lung hit. I like to set it to around three quarters open for a restricted lung hit with the 0.4ohm coil and under halfway for a mouth to lung hit with the 1.0ohm coil.
Closing the airflow right down makes for a tight, cigarette-styled draw.
Vapour production is plentiful when opening the airflow right up and this kit can definitely hold its own when it comes to delivering big clouds of vapour!
Battery Life | Leaking
The 3000mAh really does last me all day with the 0.4ohm and 0.6ohm PZP coils and even longer than that with the 1.0ohm and 1.2ohm coils. I have had no qualms taking this device out on its own with me all day and it charges up pretty quickly too.
I have noticed that during use I haven’t experienced a single leak and virtually no condensation at the base of the tank save for the very occasional drop or two that I have had to wipe away.
A true leak-free experience!

I’m aware that the year is young and at the time of writing this review we are only two months into 2024, but this is already one of my front-runners for my favourite device of the year! This has absolutely been a daily carry for me ever since I received it!
The main reason being is that I love the simplicity of the Innokin Kroma-Nova, you can get an absolutely cracking vape straight out of the box with next to no fuss.
These days I much prefer using a kit that is straightforward and easy to use and also provides great flavour, which is exactly what I get from the Kroma-Nova kit.
This device offers appeal to a wide spectrum of vapers, from those looking to move up from using disposables/pod systems right through to experienced vapers looking for a new main set up or backup to their existing one.
Finally, I think that this device offers excellent value. You get a lot of device for your money here!

In the open-label, controlled trial, “Electronic Nicotine-Delivery Systems for Smoking Cessation“, researchers aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of electronic nicotine-delivery systems or vapes, as an aid for cigarette smokers attempting to quit.
The participants consisted of adults smoking at least five tobacco cigarettes daily who expressed the intention to quit. These were randomly assigned to either an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group received free vapes and e-liquids, standard-of-care smoking-cessation counseling, and optional (non-free) nicotine-replacement therapy (NRT).
In contrast, the control group received standard counseling and a voucher that could be used for various purposes, including NRT. The primary outcome was biochemically validated continuous abstinence from smoking at the 6-month mark, with secondary outcomes including participant-reported abstinence from tobacco and any nicotine sources, respiratory symptoms, and serious adverse events.
Out of 1246 participants, 622 were assigned to the intervention group, and 624 to the control group. A DL clearomizer
The Melo 6 is a great size. At 25 mm in diameter, you need a box that can accommodate it. The large diameter and the factory-fitted bubble tank look really impressive. To make the most of it, use a dual battery box that can deliver the long vaping sessions you want.
The 810 drip tip has an inside diameter of 12 mm, making it big enough and better suited to the 0.15 ohm coil. When we tried it with the 0.3 ohm coil, the mouthpiece felt very wide and it made a huge amount of vapour. We’d have preferred a second, smaller drip tip. To fill the 5 ml tank, slide the top cap off (the upper part of the clearomizer). It’s easy, just press down on the arrow icon. Most bottle tips will fit, but steer clear of the biggest ones.
The Melo 6 uses top airflow through the two air inlets. There’s one on each side of the clearomizer. A rotating ring adjusts the air intake to cool the coil. It’s very easy to adjust, but won’t move by itself. The notched ring just above the airflow ring doesn’t do anything in particular, but it doesn’t make it easier to grip either.
When the glass tank is off, you can see the huge e-liquid inlets for feeding the coil. This feed runs the entire length of the Melo 6 so you van vape down to the last drop without getting a dry hit.
The coil fits into the base of the clearomizer. Screw it into the centre of the Melo 6, then replace the tank to close it. It’s a given that top airflow systems mean no leaks.
The Melo 6 comes with two coils: the 0.15 ohm EC-A is for use between 40 and 70 W, and the 0.3 ohm EC-A is for power levels from 30 to 50 W and direct inhalation only.
Both coils worked well during vaping. To live up to its promises, the 0.3 ohm coil needs some serious restriction and at least 45 W of power. The airflow has to be fully open underneath, and the flavours are duller and weaker.
The 0.15 ohm coil is a better bet in our view, because it’s better suited to a bigger air intake. The flavours were good at 70 W and with the air intakes completely open. Restricting the airflow a little makes the flavours deeper and the vapour hotter, which is perfect for gourmet e-liquids.

What To Expect From The Aspire Minican 4…
This kit is in the “pod kit” format which consists of a battery (or mod) and a pod (or tank).
Inside the mod is a 700mAh battery which is charged at a 1A rate using the USB Type C port.
When it comes to output you have 3 settings – 3.2V, 3.3V and 3.4V – the LED indicator will tell you which power level is selected.
The LED will also inform you of any faults and the battery charge remaining.
A great feature is the airflow slider located on the side of the mod. This allows you to tailor the incoming airflow to suit your preference.
Vaping is very simple using an “auto draw” system – which basically means that when you inhale on the mouthpiece, a sensor automatically triggers the firing.
When it comes to pods you can use the super simple fixed coil pods (discard the pod when the coil performance decreases) or you can purchase a pod which allows you to replace the coils. Unfortunately as there is no list of contents I have no idea which pods are included in the kit.
In standard format the pod will hold up to 3ml of your own e-liquid using the top fill port. For those of us in TPD regulated areas this is reduced to 2ml with a bottom fill port. The device is compatible with all previous Minican pods!
