Voopoo Vrizz Review | Will it Challenge the Disposables Market?

Up for review today is a new device from Voopoo called the Vrizz. This is a strange one as it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from Voopoo before.

Our first impression when looking at the Voopoo Vrizz was it’s very similar in terms of appearance and function to those big puff disposables that have been flooding the market in recent years. Voopoo are marketing the Vrizz as an ideal transition and cost effective solution for user switching from pre-filled disposables to a refillable pod system while still maintaining the look and simplicity of those big disposables.

They’ve achieved this perfectly in my opinion yet it holds one big secret… not only is it refillable but has a massive 15ml pod capacity that’s specified as providing a huge 80,000 (80K) puff count. The physical size of the refillable and replaceable pod is the largest I’ve ever seen and Voopoo claim it’s the world’s largest capacity pod.

Incorporating a large brightly colored display that highlights the 3 different power levels, a vape time reading and the remaining battery charge, plus variable airflow control and an 800mAh battery, it certainly has a lot to offer.

As always we will give a quick overview covering the main points and features of the Voopoo Vrizz and then jump in to the main body of the review covering everything there is to know.

Overview of the Voopoo Vrizz

The Voopoo Vrizz is a modern take on the familiar box style device measuring 98.6mm high (including the pod) by 22.7mm wide and 51.8mm deep with a weight of 66.2 grams (92.7 grams with the pod fitted). It’s manufactured out of Aluminium Alloy and PCTG which gives it a robust quality feel and comes in 6 different striking colors.

It’s a draw activated Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) and Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) pod device that utilizes a massive replaceable and refillable 15ml capacity side fill Vrizz pod that uses an integrated non-replaceable 0.7 ohm coil. A 0.4 ohm pod is available but doesn’t come with the Vrizz kit.

Powered by an internal 800mAh capacity rechargeable battery, it’s charged via a 1A Type-C charging port on the bottom of the Voopoo Vrizz. Also on the base of the Vrizz body is an adjustable airflow slider lever with 2 different size intake holes to fine tune your draw.

A large multi-colored full height display screen shows the 3 different preset wattage levels of 12W, 18W and 24W that are selectable using the small push button at the bottom of the display. A vape time reading and the remaining battery charge status are also displayed.

An e-liquid viewing window on one side of the Voopoo Vrizz casing allows you to see the remaining e-liquid left in the pod without having to remove it. And lastly, a PCTG lanyard loop above the display panel is there if you wish to use a lanyard but one isn’t supplied in the kit.

Voopoo have designed the Vrizz to mimic the look and simplicity of the big puff disposables but made it refillable. Not only this, it’s claimed to have a puff count of 80,000 (80K) with 4 refills before the pod/coil starts to degrade.

Packaging of the Voopoo Vrizz

The packaging of the Voopoo Vrizz is quite simple and not too dissimilar to the standard disposable packaging we’re used to.

It has a lift open top flap with a plastic slide out molded insert. The Voopoo Vrizz is securely held in the insert with the Vrizz pod pre-fitted. On the underside of the plastic insert is a sealed clear plastic packet that contains the user manual and the Type-C USB charging cable.

On the front of the box is a photo of the Vrizz in the color of the included device together with the branding “Voopoo”, “Vrizz” and a circular badge stating “Up To 80K Puffs”. The reverse side of the box details the “Contents”, “Manufacturer’s Details”, “CE/Kite mark logo’s” and the relevant safety warnings.

The left side of the box has 4 boxed icons; “15ml Large Capacity”, “Up to 80K Puffs without Leakage”, “As Simple as Disposable” and a QR code. The right side of the device states “Vrizz”, an authentication sticker and a bar code with the color of the included device.

The overall dimensions of the Voopoo Vrizz packaging box measures 144mm tall by 72mm wide and 43mm deep.

Preparing to Use the Voopoo Vrizz

When you first unbox your Voopoo Vrizz device, it comes pre-fitted with the Vrizz 0.7 ohm pod. Before you can use your device, take the pod out and remove the clear thin film protector from the sides and base of the pod. This protects the coil contacts during transportation.

Unplug the black silicone rubber e-liquid bung on the side of the Vrizz pod and fill with e-liquid. It’s a 15ml e-liquid capacity so have plenty to hand! Re-secure the rubber bung and wait for 10-15 minutes before you refit the pod into the Vrizz body.

There is no On/Off button so as you insert the Vrizz pod the large display will illuminate. There is a clear protection sticker around the smoked black display screen, this can be removed as it will start to look messy during use.

At the bottom of the display is a small rectangular control button, this has no other function than to select the 3 different preset wattage’s. I would suggest altering the wattage level to the lowest value of 12W to start with and take a few draws to pull e-liquid through the pod to slowly bed the new pod/coil in.

Each press of the control button will select the next preset wattage level and increase the power level to 18W and 24W respectively. You can see these changes at the top of the display screen in the form of a moving pointer with the wattage level above the pointer.

Lastly, you can adjust the airflow control slider on the bottom of the Voopoo Vrizz to adjust the air intake to suit the type of draw you require.

Voopoo Vrizz Design and Appearance

Voopoo Vrizz Battery/Body

The Voopoo Vrizz is constructed out of Aluminium Alloy and PCTG and measures 80.5mm tall (excluding the pod), 51.8mm wide by 22.7mm deep and weighs in at 66.2 grams. When the Vrizz pod is fitted, the overall height is 98.6mm and the combined weight is 92.7 grams. When the Vrizz pod is filled with e-liquid, the total weight is 110 grams.

It’s a reasonably large box style MTL and RDL draw activated device with a variable airflow slider button on the bottom of the Vrizz body. This slider has two different size holes; one circular 2mm diameter hole and a rectangular 3.5mm hole. Depending on the position of the slider (left or right), either one of these holes will be visible.

It is possible to position the slider in the center where both holes will be partially open. What you can’t do though is completely shut off the air intake which is a good thing.

While we’re focusing on the bottom of the Vrizz, the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/1A is positioned on the outer edge (display side) to the airflow slider. The Voopoo Vrizz has an internal 800mAh capacity rechargeable battery and is charged using the supplied cable that comes in the kit via this port.

Charging times are reasonably quick and will fully charge the Vrizz in approximately 1 hour with the added benefit of pass-thru allowing you to vape while it’s being charged.

Moving on to the full height and width display screen, it’s encased in a smoked black cover on the front edge of the Vrizz which wraps around both sides of the body by about 15mm. Towards the bottom of the display screen is a 10mm by 5mm rectangular control button that when pressed illuminates the display and selects the 3 different preset power levels of 12W, 18W and 24W. This is NOT a fire button as the Vrizz is draw activated only.

The large brightly colored display shows 3 different parameters; at the top of the screen is the preset wattage level that’s been selected, the middle section shows your vape time reading in seconds and the bottom of the display shows the percentage figure of the remaining battery charge.

On one side of the tinted display is a long 37mm light bar that changes color depending on the power level you’ve selected. Both this light bar and the display illuminate when you draw on the mouthpiece or the control button is pressed.

Above the display screen is a PCTG cutout and lanyard loop that sits flush with the top of the Vrizz body for attaching a lanyard if desired. A lanyard isn’t included in the Vrizz kit so you will have to use your own one.

At the top of the Voopoo Vrizz is the very very deep 45mm pod recess where the Vrizz pod is fitted. This opening is oval shaped so the pod can be fitted either way round. Within the pod recess are two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins and two circular magnets that line up with the pod. There is also a circular auto draw sensor in-between the coil pins in the center of the recess.

This recess is very deep because of the huge size and capacity (15ml) of the Vrizz pod. When it’s fitted, the magnets and physical size of the pod means it’s held securely in place with no wobble at all. Because the Vrizz pod is a side fill, it does have to be removed to fill with e-liquid.

On one side of the Voopoo Vrizz body is a rectangular 27mm x 12mm cut-out in the casing that serves as an e-liquid viewing window when the pod is fitted. Because only one side of the body is cut out it does make it a little difficult to see the remaining e-liquid. I felt if both sides were cut-out then light could pass through the casing and pod and show the e-liquid level easier.

Branding on the Vrizz is limited to “VOOPOO” screen printed on one side of the casing and the “CE and Disposal” markings on the base of the Vrizz body. Surprisingly there’s no mention of the product name Vrizz on the casing.

The Vrizz chip set ensures a multitude of safety features are maintained, such as:

Overtime protection (5 seconds)
Low battery protection (3.2V)
Short circuit protection (<0.3 ohms)
Over temperature protection
Overcharge protection
Output overcurrent protection
Max power protection

There are a total of 6 different colors available in the Vrizz range, these include:

Silver & Black
Sunset Orange
Spring Green
Phantom Purple
Iris Blue
Midnight Black

The color we received to test and review was Sunset Orange. Each of the different colors, with the exception of Midnight Black are color graded (shaded) from dark to light.

Voopoo Vrizz Pod

Let’s get the obvious point out the way first… the Vrizz pod is massive! As I said earlier it’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen and Voopoo say it’s the largest pod capacity in the world. It holds 15ml of e-liquid (yes it’s refillable) and it’s stated it lasts for 4 refills before the flavor from the coil starts to tailor off. This equates to 60ml of e-liquid which translates up to 80000 (80K) puffs.

If the coil in the Vrizz pod is like Voopoo’s other coils and pods, then this figure could most likely be understated and exceed the 80K puffs. I’m not about to check it with my mechanical clicker but will gauge the amount of e-liquid I pass through the pod before I notice any drop in flavor.

Vmate Pod Verses Vrizz Pod

Talking of coils, the coil in the Vrizz pod looks a lot bigger than the usual coils we’ve seen in the PnP, PnP-X and Vmate pods. This in part is due to the increased size and capacity of the pod which far exceeds the usual 2ml/4ml pods we’ve been used to. To combat this extra size, Voopoo use an extra layer of high absorbent fibre that’s wrapped around the coil separating it from the core. This fibre is from the aviation industry which withstands extreme heat and burning to allow for the 80,000 puff count.

A 0.7 ohm Vrizz pod is supplied with the kit and there is an additional 0.4 ohm pod that’s sold separately. These new Vrizz pods are side fill and have to be removed to fill.

When first using your pod, make sure you remove the thin plastic film from the base and sides of the pod. The pod comes shipped with this protector so they can’t be accidentally fired before e-liquid has been added.

The Vrizz pod is manufactured out of slightly tinted (smoked) lightweight PCTG material. This tint is fairly light so it’s quite easy to see your e-liquid level once it’s removed from the Vrizz body. Its overall dimensions are 63.5mm tall by 42.5mm wide and 20.5mm deep and weighs is at 26.5 grams (43.5 grams when filled).

There is a slight 2mm lip around the top diameter of the Vrizz pod which when fitted to the Vrizz pod recess sits flush and level with the Vrizz body. Its mouthpiece is a duckbill shape with a 9mm oval opening tapering to a 4mm circular cut out to cater for the MTL/RDL vape style.

On one side edge of the Vrizz pod is a black silicone rubber e-liquid stopper that has the resistance of the coil (0.7 ohms) branded into the rubber with a directional arrow showing which end is lifted away to open. The side fill e-liquid port is concealed behind this stopper.

To gain access to the fill port, open the rubber flap from the direction of the arrow (bottom end). The other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod so it won’t get lost. It can be swiveled to the side to give easier access to the filling hole. This e-liquid fill port is a reasonable size measuring 4.5mm so is just big enough to accept short stubby e-liquid tip bottles.

On the underside of the Vrizz pod are 2 airflow intake holes in-between the two large coil contact plates. At the outer base edges of the pod are the “CE” and “Bin” markings.

Apart from “Voopoo” printed on one side of the pod, there are no other markings to say it’s a Vrizz pod but then again it’s pretty obvious as this won’t fit anything other than the Vrizz device.

Inserting the pod is straightforward enough, simply place the pod to the Vrizz body recessed pod opening and it will slide into the recess and be locked and held in place by the magnets. When the pod is inserted into the Vrizz body, the display will initially illuminate and then extinguish.

Removing the pod is carried out by grasping the pod mouthpiece and pulling away from the Vrizz body/battery. It’s a reasonably secure fit but because the pod sits quite low in the pod recess it can be a bit tricky to remove especially if your fingers or the mouthpiece are wet.

Alternatively you can grasp the very slight lip at the top of the pod and remove it this way.

Voopoo Vrizz Functionality

In keeping with its intended design, the Vrizz has limited functionality to mimic that of a large disposable device. However, it does have variable airflow control, 3 preset power levels selected by a push button and a lovely bright clear colorful full height and width display.

It’s a draw activated device so doesn’t have a fire button nor and on/off switch. As like a disposable, to use the Vrizz you just select your power level, adjust the airflow and draw on the mouthpiece.

Display Screen

The Vrizz display is very different to Voopoo’s usual layout that we’ve seen on their other pods. Again they’ve mimicked the displays of other big puff disposables giving it a bright bold outlook.

This display breaks down into 3 parts; the top showing which of the 3 preset power levels have been selected (12W, 18W or 24W), the middle section highlights your vape time reading and the bottom section shows the percentage of the remaining battery charge.

In addition to the main display, on one side edge of the smoked black screen is a long 37mm led light that changes color depending on what wattage you’ve set and also breaths (cycles) when you draw on the pod:

12W = Blue LED
18W = Blue LED
24W = Red LED

Strangely enough both the 12W and 18W settings show Blue. I would have thought it more appropriate for the 12W to be green making 3 different colors for each wattage setting.

Protection

We were unable to find out the visual indication on the display for the different levels of protection. What we have done is detail what the display indicates for the conditions we could check:

Drawing on the pod: – Display illuminates, light bar cycles, vape time increments
Charging: – 4 segment circle around battery indication cycles, digits increment
Full charge: – 99% or when display blanks
Low battery: – Display changes from normal screen to “00”
Pod inserted: – Display illuminates briefly
Overtime protection (5 seconds): – Display indicates “E3”

Preset Wattage Adjustment

Selecting the 3 different preset wattage levels is carried out by pressing the control button. Each time the button is pressed, the wattage level increments to the next power level. The power level that’s selected is displayed above the pointer.

Battery Status

The bottom part of the display indicates the remaining charge left in the battery. Two 7 segment numerical digits show the remaining percentage value. Surrounding these digits is a 4 segment circle that cycles when you draw on the device.

When the battery approaches the low battery cut-off (3.2V), the battery percentage will have counted down to 1%. Shortly after this time the display will then switch from the main display to “00” and stop working. At this point you will have to place the Voopoo Vrizz on charge.

Vape Time Reading

When you draw on the Vrizz mouthpiece, the middle vape time reading on the display will increase and record your vape time in seconds. This vape time will remain visible until the display times out.

Display Timeout
After you draw on the mouthpiece or press the control button, the display will remain illuminated for approximately 5 seconds and then extinguish.

Airflow

The adjustable airflow control slider on the bottom of the casing provides a MTL and RDL style draw. Moving the slider away from the USB port increases the air intake for an RDL draw and towards the USB port restricts the air intake for a MTL draw.

This slider has a nice restrictive feel to it so won’t move on its own accord. You can position the lever anywhere between minimum and maximum to tweak your preferred vaping style.

Voopoo Vrizz Performance

A 0.7 ohm Kanthal mesh side fill pod is supplied with the Voopoo Vrizz kit. It does have an integrated coil so the coil is non-replaceable.

Voopoo state on their website that this pod is good for 4 refills which equates to 60ml of e-liquid passed through the pod before it starts to deteriorate.

As always, when filling the pod for the first time, do leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes before you use to allow the e-liquid to fully saturate the wicking materi

al. I also bed a new pod in by setting the wattage to its lowest power and take a few draws to pull e-liquid through the coil.

Vrizz 0.7 Ohm Pod (pre-installed)

Before I get into the performance of the pod, there are no min/max wattage levels to worry about, it operates across the 3 preset power levels that the Vrizz outputs.

With the wattage set to its first 12W setting, even though the flavor and vapor came through I did feel this was a little under-powered. Irrespective of the airflow setting I found a MTL draw was not possible and needed a good draw to get a mouthful of the good stuff.

Increasing the wattage to its second setting of 18W gave more intensity to the draw with good flavor and vapor but still lacking a bit when vaping MTL. Again I found with the airflow set to the smaller or larger opening I was still vaping RDL and can say it was vaping very well.

The last power setting of 24W did improve the MTL draw although it was still on the airy side. RDL was a great draw with plenty of flavor coming through with lots of vapor.

Any Leaks?
Voopoo state the extra layer of cotton around the coil helps prevent the pod from leaking.

Throughout my time using the Voopoo Vrizz with the supplied 0.7 ohm pod there were no e-liquid leaks or seepage. However, if you’re not using the device, or any other device for that matter, for a day or two and the pod is still connected to the device, e-liquid seepage will most likely occur.

This is not a criticism of the Vrizz pods in any way, it’s just my experience when using any pod mod.

Airflow
The airflow slider adjustment worked effortlessly and has a good restrictive feel to the slider.

Closing the airflow to the small circular hole produces a MTL draw and worked best at the 24W setting. It’s not overly tight but on the airy side. Opening the airflow to the rectangular hole provides a restrictive draw (RDL).

Auto Draw
Auto draw worked perfectly and always fired the Voopoo Vrizz. Irrespective of the position of the airflow, the draw was smooth and quiet. When the airflow slider is set to fully open, a harder draw is need to activate the draw but this is to be expected.

What I did find at times when the airflow is fully open, e-liquid occasionally gets pulled through the mouthpiece and gurgling occurs. This is easily resolved by turning the pod upside down at tapping the mouthpiece on some tissue paper to clear the chimney.

Longevity
By the time I’d completed this review, I cycled approximately 75ml of e-liquid through the pod. This is 5-6 fills and the flavor is still crisp and as strong as it was when I first filled the pod. This is already past the 4 fills that Voopoo specify so the working life of the coil is looking good.

Voopoo Vrizz Battery Performance

The Voopoo Vrizz is powered by a rechargeable 800mAh capacity internal battery and takes approximately 1 hour to fully charge via the on board Type-C USB port with the supplied cable.

On average I was achieving just under a day’s vaping from the fully charged battery with the wattage set to 18W. Because there’s no puff counter I wasn’t able to record the puff count but did get through approximately 4ml of e-liquid during this time.

Vaping times will vary depending on the resistance of the pod you’re using, the wattage that’s been selected and your vaping style i.e. duration and frequency of your draw.

The Voopoo Vrizz indicates the status of the remaining battery charge on the 2 digit 7 segment display when you draw on the mouthpiece or press the control button. Full charge equals 99% and as the battery charge diminishes, the percentage value counts down from 99% to 1%.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that once the battery percentage showed 1%, I achieved another hour’s vaping time before the battery eventually cut out. The main display remains at 1% until the battery cuts out and changes to a single screen showing “00”. At this point you will no longer be able to vape and will have to charge the Vrizz.

We’ve covered the charging process and what to expect in How do I Charge the Voopoo Vrizz section. Even though the Vrizz charges in around 1 hour, it does have pass-thru so you are able to vape while it’s being charged.

The intensity of the draw remained consistent throughout the discharge cycle of the battery. It doesn’t diminish as the battery drains and remained the same up to the point when the battery cuts out.

How do I Fill the Voopoo Vrizz Pod?
As we’ve mentioned earlier in this review, when using these Vrizz side fill pods, they DO have to be removed from the Vrizz pod recess in order to fill with e-liquid.

The fill port is located on one side of the Vrizz pod casing and is concealed behind a black silicon rubber flap. A small arrow, just below the pod resistance is indented on the rubber flap highlighting which end of the rubber stopper lifts away to gain access to the fill port.

This silicone rubber flap is attached to the pod by a small rubber pin so there’s no chance of it getting lost. It can be swiveled sideways when you’re filling to give a little more free room. Because the fill port opening is pretty wide (4.5mm), it’ll accept those larger e-liquid/shortfill bottle tips.

Pull open the flap and insert your e-liquid bottle tip into the opening. Tilt the pod on its side to aid filling and to get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the pod (15ml). Once filled, re-insert the silicon rubber flap making sure the fill port is securely re-seated.

Re-insert the Vrizz pod into the pod recess. As you insert the pod, the display will briefly illuminate.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/pod. I would also bed the new pod in first by setting the power level to its lowest value (12W) and take a few draws. Increase the wattage to the next preset level if you wish to increase the intensity of your draw.

When and How do I Change the Vrizz Pod?
Because the included Vrizz pod has a fixed non replaceable coil, when the coil starts to degrade i.e. loss of flavor and/or vapor, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted. Voopoo state these pods have a minimum lifespan of 4 refills (60ml) of e-liquid passing through them before it needs replacing.

Pull the pod away from the Voopoo Vrizz battery/body. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well as it may have been tainted if the coil has burnt out.

When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How do I Fill the Pod. As you insert the pod into the Voopoo Vrizz body, the display will illuminate to identify the pod has made electrical contact with the Vrizz coil contact pins.

How do I Charge the Voopoo Vrizz?

Because the Vrizz has an internal battery, charging is carried out using the USB to Type-C charging cable (supplied in the kit). Simply connect the cable into the Type-C port on the front bottom of the Voopoo Vrizz body and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The specified charging circuit of the Vrizz is 5V/1.0A and will fully charge the Voopoo Vrizz in approximately 1 hour.

As you plug the Type-C cable into the charging port, the Vrizz display illuminates, the 4 segment circle will cycle and the battery percentage will slowly start to increase. The GREAT news is the display remains illuminated throughout the complete charging cycle.

Full charge is achieved when the battery percentage on the display indicates 99%, it will not read 100% as there are only 2 digits on the display. Leaving the charging cable plugged in once it reaches 99% will still show 99% with the 4 segment lights cycling for another 5 minutes and then the display goes blank. Questionable whether full charge is reached at 99% or when the display blanks?

I recorded the charging times to gauge how long it took for the Vrizz to reach different set percentage points as shown below:

10% = 7 minutes
25% = 16 minutes
50% = 33 minutes
75% = 50 minutes
90% = 60 minutes
99% (full charge?) = 65 minutes
Display blanks = 70 minutes

The Voopoo Vrizz has pass-through so you can vape while it’s being charged but bear in mind this will increase the overall charge time.

I did observe while the Voopoo Vrizz was being charged the front display was slightly warm to the touch but the Vrizz body remained cool. However, I do advise to always charge this, and any other device for that matter, on a non-flammable surface.

As with any vape device, NEVER leave it unattended whilst charging and don’t charge it overnight.

Voopoo Vrizz Price
At the time of writing our Vrizz review it’s still new on the scene so at present not widely available. We’ve seen it on sale from vapesourcing.uk for £10.99 and sourcemore.com for $19.99. I recommend searching around for the best deal you can find.

The Voopoo Vrizz is a great alternative for user wishing to switch from disposables and save themselves a fortune and of course help save the planet!

Voopoo Vrizz Kit Review Summary

The Vrizz pod kit is Voopoo’s answer to entice disposable users to a more cost effective and environmentally friendly solution while maintaining the look, simplicity and feel of the big puff disposables.

It looks like a disposable, it performs equally as well AND is refillable with a massive 15ml e-liquid capacity pod. This in effect means you can use any e-liquid you desire and not limited to the pre-filled flavors that disposable’s come in. Because of its size you only need to fill it every now and again so definitely a plus on both points.

The only possible downside to this is disposables are overly flavored with at times lots of sweeteners added so moving to normal shop bought e-liquid will take getting used to. A big plus for me is I can use my diy e-liquid so can mix any flavor and any strength I desire.

Maintaining its simplicity, it’s draw activated, has airflow control and 3 different power levels to suit your vape style. An e-liquid viewing window is cut into the side of the Voopoo Vrizz casing and the large bright colored display monitors your power level, vape time reading and remaining battery charge.

It’s not the biggest battery (800mAh) but it does last a day’s vaping between charges and does charge reasonably quickly with the added benefit of pass-thru so you can charge and vape at the same time.

The airflow control adjusts between MTL and RDL vaping styles but because of its design, I didn’t find the MTL draw was very tight but gives a great RDL draw.

Hope you enjoyed this review on the Voopoo Vrizz pod kit and found it useful and informative.
