Vaporesso Xros 3 Mini Review - Bringing Back Old School MTL Vaping?

Vaporesso is known worldwide for its user-friendly pod kits and powerful mods. As they continue to listen to customer feedback to improve their products, previously released vape kits from the Xros series spanning MTL, RDL and DTL vape styles demonstrate why they rock!

·MTL - Mouth to lung vaping
·RDL - Restricted direct to lung vaping
·DTL - Direct to lung vaping

The latest in the collection is the Vaporesso Xros 3 Mini, released alongside the slightly larger version. Both have 1000mAh battery capacities, but aside from that, are they different or the same? Are these some of the best pod kits around, or is there something better? We compare and contrast the key features of the Xros 3 Mini with our latest review.

Which Coils Can You Use From Vaporesso?
The great thing about the latest release is the different resistances that are compatible with the Xros 3 Mini. Not only is there a brand new 0.6 Ohm mesh pod that provides a sweeter release of freebase nicotine alongside the various e-liquid flavours you can pick. In addition, the Xros 3 Mini is also compatible with the previous pods from the series. Therefore, you can opt for not just a 0.6 Ohm RDL coil but also the 0.7 Ohm, 0.8 Ohm, 1.0 Ohm and 1.2 Ohm - all made with mesh. When a coil is made with that sort of material and design, that creates a larger surface area to expand the flavour and make it longer lasting.

How Does it Vape?
It is a throwback to the old way you used to vape that mimics that of a cigarette. These days it’s about the restrictive direct lung hit or the loose MTL that’s light and breezy, with the airflow slightly open. But not with the Xros 3 Mini! Because there is no adjustable airflow on this device and it’s a fairly narrow mouthpiece, the draw you get from the higher resistance Ohm pods especially is very tight, like your traditional mouth-to-lung vape used to be!

While you can suffer leaking issues with some pod kits, in particular side fill, the Vaporesso Xros series is reliable thanks to the SSS leak-resistant technology and the Xros 3 Mini demonstrates this with no spills and more thrills. It’s even better than the Caliburn series in our opinion, which is known for limited leaks.

The mouthpiece is comfortable and updated to satisfy mouth-to-lung vapers and the airflow is slightly tighter than the Xros 3, which you can adjust yourself, so the choice which you go for depends on what you like. As an auto-draw-only device, the Xros 3 Mini is very close to replicating a cigarette, without the thousands of dangerous toxins of course.

Functionality and How to Use the Device
Because it’s an auto-draw device with no buttons to press, settings to adjust or airflow to manipulate, this is a very basic vape kit - in a good way. For new vapers fresh from quitting smoking, it’s ideal. You don’t have to think about anything except topping up the e-liquids, which is easy. The coils are sealed inside a variety of pods, meaning you can fill them and then throw them away when the longevity of the coil finishes. But rest assured, they last plenty of time. Weeks from our initial tests when vaping MTL and not excessively.

At the bottom, there is an LED indicator which lights up for various reasons; including to warn you about any internal issues such as overheating and to tell you the battery levels. Red means charge soon at 30% down to 0%, blue indicates you have a bit more time on your hand between 30-70% and green highlights it’s nearly fully charged between 70-100%! With a 1000mAh, you can’t go wrong, easily lasting an MTL vaper throughout the day.

Appearance Breakdown
We like how they have upgraded this mini kit compared to previous versions in the series and what it looks like overall as a pod vape. The edges are smoother and more rounded than the previous version so it’s more comfortable to hold. Plus, the design is slick and aesthetically pleasing. Although it would’ve been nice if they matched the design around the device. However, that’s a subjective picky point that many manufacturers seem to create at the minute, so it depends on what you like! With clearly visible pods you can easily see the vape juice levels, which is handy. In terms of size, it’s very small and pocketable, so no complaints there! The perfect companion for vaping on the go with a stealthy feel that’s easy to hide and discreet.

Any Disadvantages?
The main sticking point for some will be the lack of adjustable airflow, which they have included on the Xros 3 device. But the tight draw is good with the higher coils and you can always get a restrictive direct lung vape with the lower resistance coils anyway.

Verdict
For mouth to lung vapers and those who have recently quit smoking, we would highly recommend this vape kit. With a range of coils to pick from, it offers a great MTL and RDL draw. But because there is no adjustable airflow, for a more advanced vaper it might not be your cup of tea, unless used as a secondary device. However, as a step up from vaping disposables, it looks great, compact enough and lightweight to carry and use easily, while providing the throat hit necessary to match with your chosen freebase e-liquid or nic salt.
