VAPORESSO GEN 200 Kit Review: Test Results Are In

Product intro and specs
The GEN 200 kit is one of the latest kits from VAPORESSO. By now most vapers know who they are as they’ve made some great products over the years. They are a very solid and reliable company overall, with only a few hiccups along the way. The 200 is the latest in the line of GEN products that include the GEN, GEN S, and GEN X, all known for their lightweight and nicely textured construction.

VAPORESSO seem to be going back to the mod and tank kits lately, which is nice to see given the recent pod/AIO craze. The mod is rated for 220 watts, and not the 200 implied by its name. It takes two 18650 batteries and comes bundled with the iTank.

Price: TBA

First impressions

Off the bat, I’ve reviewed most of the VAPORESSO mods that have come out over the last four years or so. They’ve always been very stylish and good performers, so I have pretty high expectations for them. As far as design goes, it’s very much in line with previous GEN mods. The mod is very lightweight and has a nice texture to it for grip. It’s one of the lightest dual-battery mods I’ve held recently. The screen is large and bright, and it is a color screen—although the lack of the option to change colors on it is odd. Each mode instead has a set color to it. Overall though, I really like the design and comfort this mod has to offer and was happy to see that the iTank is included in this kit as it’s a solid sub ohm tank.

Build quality and design

Anyone who has used a VAPORESSO mod before should know what to expect as far as build quality goes. They’ve been around for years, and their mods always seem to last and are built well. This one is quite lightweight but feels like it could take some accidental damage and keep ticking. It’s nicely built.

The fire button is a simple circle on the side of the mod. Below the screen are the up and down buttons, as well as their menu button. Below that is the Type-C port. The mod features a large 0.96-inch TFT color screen that’s clear and bright and looks great. It’s not a super small device, but it’s pretty compact for a dual-18650 battery mod.

It is a symmetrical mod with a centered 510 pin which is nice. In the left hand you’ll use the pointer finger to fire and on the right hand you’d use your thumb. A firing bar would have been nice for a full symmetrical usage where you can just squeeze the mod to fire. Just a thought though—it’s not a big deal and I love symmetrical mods.

The included tank fits great on the mod and looks like it’s made for it. Mod width is listed at 29 mm, so a 30 mm tank might overhang a little, but most of the tanks we use these days will look great on it. The battery door is a magnetic plate on the back with a little indent on the bottom to pop it open easily. The magnets are strong, the plate fits perfectly, and there is a protective coating on the door with a battery warning on it.

I received the matte grey edition. I like the fact that the entire body is colored according to the color option as it makes each of them unique.  Branding was kept nice and simple. There is a small engraved “VAPORESSO” on the front above the screen in matching color so barely noticeable, and the same in the back with a very small ”V” logo which looks like an upside-down Avengers logo (I really can’t unsee it). Overall, it’s a great-looking and well-built mod.

Features and functions

The GEN 200 features the same chipset as the TARGET 200, so I’ll try to keep it short. There are quite a few modes, but all of them are variations of the power mode. No temp control on this mod but all the usual modes from VAPORESSO: Pulse mode, “F[t]” mode, and regular Wattage mode—which is the one I preferred using it with.

Then you can use the DIY mode that can be found in the menu. It allows you to pick between soft, normal, and hard preheat, Voltage mode, and Bypass mode. Switching to Voltage or Bypass will change the screen from blue to red.

Outside of temp control and Watt curve (which I find to be very useful), the GEN 200 offers most of the options you can find in a mod these days—including the variations of power mode that I find to be a bit redundant.

Using the GEN 200

The GEN 200 is a pretty typical mod and basic operations are identical to the TARGET 200:

·Click the fire button five times to turn it on/off.
·Click fire three times to lock the adjustment buttons.
·Use up or down to adjust wattage.
·Hold the menu button to cycle through the three power modes.
·Click the mode button three times to enter the menu.

The menu has the three modes above, DIY mode, and a Settings area for puffs, turning their smart mode on and off and resetting the mod to default. On the puff counter, there is also a puff history by day over the last seven days. The screen displays the wattage, a puff counter, battery meter, resistance, puff timer, and voltage output.

Power mode performance

Testing on this mod was done with Sony VCT5A batteries. They only list one max output, which is watts at 220. No max volts and amps listed on their site or in the manual.

During my testing, the max achieved wattage was 223, so excellent rating at 220 watts. The amp limit I got was 44 with a 0.1-ohm coil, which is a little above average for dual-18650 battery mods. Most are around 40. The volt limit I got was 9.467, so there is a boost circuit which is always a plus when it comes to dual-battery mods.

Overall, it’s a powerhouse of a mod. The results are very similar to the ones I got from the TARGET 200, which makes sense since they house the same chipset. The mod did struggle a little at 0.1 ohm which is to be expected at such a low resistance, and it was a little high with the higher-resistance coil. But in the medium range of my testing, which is where the included iTank is supposed to be used, it was very accurate.

The mod adjusts in full-watt increments, which is great. It scrolls fast but it does not round-robin, which is no big deal. As far as the charge rate goes, I couldn’t find a listing anywhere, but I expect it to be listed at 2A. The max charge rate I got during my testing was 2.08A which is more than good enough to earn a 2A rating. It mostly charges between 1.94-2A. It does allow for passthrough vaping as well so you can vape while it charges, and it shows individual battery percentages and the time left until full. Of course, the actual charge time will depend on your batteries, and it’s always better to use an external charger for 18650s.

Verdict
Overall, the GEN 200 is just an excellent kit for someone looking for a dual-18650 mod and a solid tank to pair it with. Outside of the difference in the casing, there’s not much to set it apart from the TARGET 200 kit that I reviewed recently. You get the same chipset, same performance, same modes, and the iTank which is one of the best tanks I’ve ever had in a kit like this.

I personally prefer this one because it’s slightly smaller and lighter, but the shape is also different so it’s mostly up to personal preference. If you are in the market for a dual-18650 kit, you can’t go wrong with any of these two.
