The longest-lasting vapes of 2023

Whether you prefer a reusable vape or the disposable variety, knowing how long it’s likely to last you is a must. Reliable and long-lasting vapes mean you don’t have to worry about them unexpectedly running low and mean you can head out with confidence.

From reusable vape kits to quality disposable vapes from big brands like Elf Bar, SKE Crystal Bar, Lost Mary and Vuse GO, there’s a huge variety to choose from. And there are new brands hitting the market all the time. That’s why we’ve put together our guide to the longest-lasting vapes of 2023. Dive in for a few recommendations and some handy hints for helping your vapes last longer.

How long does a vape last?
When you choose a vape kit, you’ll normally find that the reusable vape can last between one and two years, if it’s used correctly and you look after it well. Vape kits that use Li-ion batteries can last between two and three years, with proper use.

The length of time your vape kit lasts varies a lot depending on how often you use it. For example, someone who only has a couple of puffs a day will find that their vape lasts a lot longer than someone who partakes more often.

If you choose a vape with an external battery, you may be able to extend its lifespan by replacing the battery. Interested in choosing a vape kit with removable batteries? Find out more about the different kinds of vape batteries.

Long-lasting disposable vapes
When it comes to disposable vapes, you’ll normally find that the length of time they last is very similar. This is largely because in the UK, disposable vapes that contain nicotine are limited to an e-liquid capacity of 2ml. This means that while you may find some vapes with less, you shouldn’t see ones with more. You should never buy a nicotine-containing disposable vape in the UK containing more than 2ml of e-liquid – they are illegal black-market goods and may not meet other UK standards and regulations for safety.

What makes a difference when it comes to disposable vapes?
Almost all disposable vapes will have an estimated puff count, which is provided by the manufacturer. This guide is based on the battery size and e-liquid capacity but it’s not necessarily the best measure of how long a vape will last, because the length of a puff varies from person to person. Most manufacturers base their estimates on one second puffs tested using a ‘puffing engine’ that can take thousands of identical puffs. There is an industry standard (ISO 207681) based on three second puffs, however this has not been adopted in advertised puffs counts by any manufacturers in the UK.

Disposable vapes with nicotine
Due to the e-liquid capacity limits in the UK, most disposable vapes have an estimated puff count of around 600, even though they may have different battery sizes. That may be about to change though, with the introduction of the Vuse GO Edition 01 which still contains the regulated 2ml of e-liquid but offers an estimated puff count of up to 800, based on laboratory testing. The new Vuse GO 700 has also been optimised and offers approximately 700 puffs.

Nicotine-free disposable vapes
Disposable vapes that don’t contain any nicotine aren’t bound by the same rules and don’t have to limit their e-liquids to 2ml. You can often find nicotine-free big vape bars with a higher volume of liquid and a bigger battery to match, meaning they’ll also have higher puff counts. For example:

·Nicotine free ELUX vapes have 10ml of e-liquid and up to 3,500 puffs
·Vuse GO Max contain 4.8ml e-liquid and deliver up to 1,500 puffs
·Ohm Brew CBD with no nicotine have 6ml of e-liquid and up to 1,200 puffs
·HYLA guarana vapes with no nicotine have 3.2ml of e-liquid and up to 800 puffs
There are also nicotine-free disposable vapes that contain other active ingredients, such as guarana or CBD and CBG. Like the:
·HYLA range of botanical vapes, which offer a nicotine-free formula that’s enriched with plant extracts including guarana seed extract, for when you’re looking for something a little different. Guarana has caffeine like effects on the body and was used in traditional medicine as a stimulant.
·Ohm Brew CBD disposable vapes are available in a variety of flavour options with 6ml of 600mg of CBD + CBG, so you can get your daily supplement alongside the great taste of Ohm e-liquids.

Refillable and rechargeable disposable vapes
Most disposable vapes are designed to be used until they run out and aren’t rechargeable. However, there are a few brands that offer refillable and rechargeable vapes that let you extend their use. Popular options include:

·The Ohm Brew Refill Bar is refillable and rechargeable. It has 2ml e-liquid capacity and allows up to 15 refills. With each refill offering approximately 600 puffs per 2ml, if you refill it the full 15 times you could enjoy up to 9,000 puffs from the one disposable vape. This is the longest lasting disposable vape of its kind because it can be refilled so many times.
·There’s also the Aspire One Up R1, which is refillable and rechargeable and has 2ml e-liquid capacity and offers up to 10 refills.

Also worth keeping an eye out for is the Innokin Endura S1, which is refillable and rechargeable, with 2ml capacity and up to 7,000 puffs.

What are the different types of vape?
There are three main types of vape available to buy, each offering a different kind of benefits. These are:

Disposable vapes
These are self-contained vapes that last until the battery has run out and the e-liquid has been used up. They are great for beginners and very useful if you want a simple option for a night out or weekend away,

Rechargeable/refillable disposable vapes
Also very convenient, these are disposable vapes that can be refilled or recharged a set number of times. They’re a more economical option than one-use disposable vapes and can be great for people who’re enjoying using a disposable and looking for a more environmentally friendly choice.

Vape kits
Vape kits are designed to be reused over and over again. They have rechargeable batteries and can be refilled with your favourite e-liquids. They’re the best option when it comes to saving money and are also best for the environment. Most of our new customers make the switch to vape kits after around three months of enjoying using disposable vapes – although disposables can still be a handy option when you’re on the go.

Why choose refillable vapes over ‘single-use’ disposables?
If you’re looking for a longer lasting vape, then refillable options are the way to go. They let you:

·Refill and recharge repeatedly
·Don’t need to be disposed of after a set number of uses
·Are much cheaper over time, as they need replaced much less frequently
·Are more environmentally friendly

Another great thing about refillable vapes is the fact that you can choose to change your e-liquid on every fill, letting you enjoy a variety of flavours and swap them in and out depending on your mood. This is true for both refillable/rechargeable disposables as well as vape kits, although kits last longer.

Do refillable disposable vapes last longer than disposables?
Refillable disposable vapes last much longer than ‘single-use’ disposable vapes. How long they last depends on a variety of things, including whether they have rechargeable batteries, how many times they can be refilled and how well they are made.

That said, refillable disposable vapes do not last as long as vape kits. Refillable and rechargeable vapes have a limited number of recommended refills, while upgrading to reusable vape kits will give you a longer lasting options, as they’re designed to be refilled and recharged repeatedly.

Making the switch to vape kits
There are a variety of different refillable vapes on offer and some of them make the switch from disposables to vape kits very easy. For example, prefilled pod kits are a great starter options for anyone considering making the switch, as the device operates in a way that’s very similar to disposable vapes and refilling is straightforward. You’ll find more inspiration and ideas in our alternatives to disposable vapes guide.

That said, disposables can be handy when you’re on the go and don’t want to bring a whole kit with you. The vape you choose might change depending on what you’re up to, where a disposable is handy for a music festival or weekend break, while a long lasting refillable vape is perfect for day to day use.

How long do vape coils last?
While vape kits are designed to last a lot longer than ‘single use’ disposable vapes, they’re still subject to wear and tear and the tanks or pods contain a vape coil which often needs to be replaced regularly. Some kits feature refillable pods with built-in coils that need to be replaced on a similar timeframe.

The coil is the component that heats up your e-liquids and turns it into vapour. Its name comes from the fact that it’s typically a wire that’s wrapped around your vape’s wicking material, although there are also ceramic coils and mesh coils.

How often do vape coils need replaced?
The length of time that a vape coil lasts depends on a few different things, including what it’s made of, what the power output is, and how often you use your vape. It can vary widely between devices, lasting anywhere between one week and three. They are easy to replace, however, and replacing them extends the life of your vape.

If you’re looking for a longer lasting vape coil, then choosing a mesh coil could help, as these tend to have a longer use life than standard coils.

What can I do to extend the life of my vape coil?
There are a few things you can do to help your vape coil last for as long as possible, these include:

·Priming your coil before using it for the first time. All you need to do is put a few drops of e-liquid on the exposed cotton around the outside of the coil before placing it in the tank. This helps to kickstart absorption and reduces the chance of burning a coil.

·Always be sure to choose the right e-liquid for your vape and coil type. Different e-liquids contain different ratios of base liquids - Vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) - such as 50/50 or high VG. Some ratios will be best suited to different types of devices and making sure you choose the right mix can help look after your coil. You can find out more in our guide to different kinds of e-liquids.

·When you’re vaping, make sure you keep your tank topped up and don’t let your e-liquid run dry.

·Leave a little bit of time in between puffs, ideally at least 10 to 15 seconds, to allow the coil to reabsorb your e-liquid between them.

·If you have a device with buttons that allows you to ‘lock’ or switch off your device, be sure to do so when you’re not using it. This makes it less likely that your vape will accidentally fire in your pocket or bag, burning the coil out without you using it.
