THE 4-STEP BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO CHOOSING THE RIGHT E-LIQUIDS

E-liquids are among the most important—if not the most important—elements of vaping and e-cigarettes. In many cases, the vast range of e-liquids is exactly what lures people in to try the hobby. However, choosing the right fluid might be daunting to the uninitiated, especially with all the choices available.

If you’re still undecided about what e-liquid to get next, read on. We have created this guide to determining what flavour is right for you.

1 - Begin with flavour
All the other elements of e-liquids are secondary to flavour. If you don’t like how it tastes or smells, you might just end wasting money on a flavour you quickly get tired of.

If you are still determining your preferences in e-cigarettes, start with something subtle. A rich and intense e-liquid might shock your taste buds and it might get too stale too quickly. As with all things, it is always best to start small and work your way up. If you feel your current choice does not satisfy your cravings, it will be easier to transition to something more exotic.

2 - Choose your nicotine level carefully
People often see e-cigarettes and vaping as healthier alternatives to smoking, especially since they can control the level of nicotine they consume. However, it is still important to hit that sweet spot so you can vape with just the frequency you want. If your nicotine levels are too low, you might end up drawing more frequently to make up for it; too much may make you feel drowsy or give you headaches.

As a good rule of thumb, stick to 6 mg and below if you were a light smoker. Anywhere from 9 mg to 16 mg is a good range for people who smoke between half and one pack per day. The 18 to 36 mg range is perfect for chain smokers.

If you are vaping to lower your nicotine consumption, you can lower your concentration as time goes on.

3 - Tweak your PG/VG ratio
The Propylene Glycol/Vegetable Glycerol ratio refers to the concentration of these ingredients in an e-liquid. Most juices have a 24/60 ratio, but many users deviate from this mixture the longer they vape.

The more PG you have in your liquid, the more it will resemble the throat hit of a cigarette. Many former cigarette users start out with high PG mixtures. VG, on the other hand, is responsible for the cloud. The higher your VG, the more expansive your clouds might be.

For first time vapers, try working with a smaller PG. Though it is rare, some people develop allergies to PG.

4 - Don’t buy big bottles yet
Many stores offer free samples of various juices. There are also plenty of tester packs to choose from. Some stores can provide up to thirty different flavours in a single tester pack. If ever you had doubts you might find your favourite flavour, you just might with one of these packs.

Once you’ve found your favourite flavours and explored the hobby of e-cigarettes and vaping sufficiently, then you should go off and buy a big bottle of that e-liquid.

Final thoughts
Vaping and e-cigs, like any hobby, can start slow for everyone. After all, there are hundreds and maybe thousands of different choices out there. No matter how unique or weird your preferences might be, there is a right e-liquid for you. You just have to keep trying every juice you can. You might even have fun trying all the different flavours.
