SMOK Mag Grip Box Mod Review
SMOK is a well-known name in the vaping industry, with many excellent products in its range.
Their MAG was a top-selling mod, and now, they’ve followed it up with the MAG Grip – an ergonomically designed device that has taken its inspiration from a gun grip.
It looks good, and it sounds good – but is it actually living up to the hype?
Here, we take a closer look at this gun-inspired device that has a unique look, and that offers great performance.
SMOK Mag Grip Kit
This kit comes complete with everything you need except the battery.
Inside the box, you’ll find the MAG Grip Mod itself along with a SMOK TFV8 Baby V2 tank.
It also comes complete with two coils, the Baby V2 S1 and S2 coils.
You’ll also find an easy to understand user manual along with a spare glass, a charging cable and a 18650 battery adapter.
So, what should you know about this device?
The MAG Grip measures 91.5 x 67 x 38mm and requires a single 18650, 21700 or 20700 battery which doesn’t come in the kit.
If you use a 18650 battery, you’ll be able to enjoy an 85W output, or a 100W output if you opt for a 20700 or 21700 battery.
The resistance range is 0.1 to 2.5-ohm in VW mode or 0.05 to 2-ohm in TC mode and the temperature ranges from 200 up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit.
The device comes complete with a Baby V2 tank which also offers an excellent vaping experience.
Its 5ml capacity is enough to satisfy any vaper, and it has a convenient top-filling system for minimal fuss and mess when refilling.
It features an 810 drip tip that’s replaceable and a bottom adjustable airflow.
It also comes with two coils – a 0.15-ohm single mesh coil and a 0.15-ohm V2 strip mesh for an excellent vaping experience.
Design and Build
The SMOK MAG Grip has an unusual appearance which is very similar to a gun grip, even down to the trigger-like fire button.
It has a coloured body in one of four colour options – black, chrome, blue or red.
The chrome variant is especially stylish and has a futuristic look.
You’ll find the body has been ergonomically designed – there’s even a curving section surrounding the trigger button allowing your finger to fit around it nicely, as well as a groove where your thumb fits perfectly.
There’s an OLED screen too along the top edge. Although the screen is smaller than those found on some rival devices.
It tells you all the essential details you need to know when you’re vaping and it has an intuitive menu navigation system.
This device is well constructed.
It’s bulky, so it won’t fit easily into your pocket, but it does have a stylishly machined shape that gives it the feel of being virtually indestructible.
It’s strong, robust and durable. The buttons click nicely while the threading has been well-made – you won’t need to worry about cross-threading.
This threading is the standard 510 type, and this makes this device compatible with virtually all tanks.
Whichever tank you use, you’ll find that the spring-loaded, gold-plated contact point ensures excellent connectivity.
The fire button has a trigger-style design that fits perfectly into the gun theming.
This works surprisingly well when you’re vaping since your finger naturally falls onto it when you’re holding the mod.
Performance
You certainly won’t be disappointed by the performance of this device.
In VW mode, it responds rapidly, and with its different options for hit strength, it couldn’t be simpler to tailor your draw to meet your specific preferences.
When combined with the Baby V2 tank, it produces an impressive flavour and vapour that are very difficult to beat.
Whether you’re using a low or a high setting, it works equally well, and if you’re a cloud chaser, you’re especially going to appreciate the high power output.
In TC Mode, the performance is also excellent.
With its adjustable ramp-up wattage, you can achieve a consistent draw with no obvious power fluctuations when you hit your limit.
Battery
The MAG Grip doesn’t come with a battery supplied, but it has an especially unusual battery compartment.
You’re either going to love it or hate it.
Essentially, it’s been designed to mimic a gun’s magazine, with the battery held in a tube inside the mod’s body which slides out of the base of the mod when you press the button next to the firing trigger.
The tube is well-labelled, so you’ll have no problem in fitting your batteries the correct way round.
It also comes with an additional sleeve so you can use your device with a 18650 battery as well as with larger ones.
Box Mod
The MAG Grip mod is capable of supporting stainless steel, titanium and Ni200 Nickel heating elements.
It also offers four different preheating options – soft, normal, hard and max.
Another great feature of this mod is its intelligent atomiser recognition, and it also comes equipped with plenty of safety protections including short circuit, over-discharge and overheating protection.
Pros and Cons
Pros
This mod works with three types of battery
The design is pretty cool with its gun-inspired look
Can fire up to 100W with the larger battery options
Ergonomically designed for better comfort
Simple to use
Outstanding performance in both VW and TC modes
Cons
It’s bulky and heavy, so not very portable
The design isn’t to everybody’s taste
Verdict
If you’re looking for a well-made, hard-hitting and feature-packed mod and you aren’t bothered about it being too chunky to fit into a pocket, you’re going to love the SMOK MAG Grip.
It isn’t very portable, and it’s a little on the heavy side, but if durability and vaping power are your top priorities, you’re sure to appreciate the quality of this device.
With its ergonomic design and its stylish good looks, it’s hard to beat the performance of this mod, so whether you use it in TC or VW mode, you’re sure to enjoy an excellent experience.
