Review: Gen Max – Vaporesso

New dual-battery setup from Vaporesso. The Gen Max kit can deliver up to 220 W thanks to its uniquely designed box. Topped with a high-capacity top airflow clearomizer, the vapor production is impressive.

Design Change

The Gen Max kit stands out from Vaporesso’s usual productions with its round screen and multifunctional rotary button. The box is both powerful and easy to use. The iTank T clearomizer offers substantial vapor production while preserving flavors.

Comfortable to Hold

The Gen Max box has a rounded metal platform that accommodates the clearomizer. Designed to pair with the iTank T of the kit, it works with any atomizer up to 23 mm in diameter without visual overflow. The sides of the box have an angle of about 45° that limits the diameter of the clearomizer. However, it is possible to use an atomizer up to 25 mm in diameter without it being aesthetically bothersome.

On one side of the Gen Max, there is a USB-C connector for potential electronic updates or occasional battery recharging. For longer battery life, we recommend using a dedicated charger for this battery format. There is also a small button that acts as a lock. It allows the box to be completely blocked during transport, avoiding the classic 5 successive presses that turn off the box, although this function remains available.

Finally, and this is the main feature of the box, a knurled rotary button completes the ensemble. It allows users to enter menus and select various options. It is also used to set the vaping power. Each rotation is accompanied by a muffled click. Everything is centralized through this wheel. Goodbye to the “+” and “-” buttons and fire button.

The placement of the wheel is comfortable whether you are right-handed or left-handed, and whether you press it with your thumb or index finger.

The battery cradle is hidden under a metal panel. It is held in place by two extremely powerful magnets that firmly attach the access panel to the box. There is no risk of this part moving on its own or coming off during transport.

The Gen Max works with two 18650 batteries. The polarity is clearly indicated inside the box. If the user inserts the batteries incorrectly, the Gen Max box is protected against reverse polarity.

A small fabric tab makes it easy to remove the batteries. The level of finish matches the box’s quality. Everything is meticulously assembled without the slightest play or protruding part.

The Gen Max is powered by Axon electronics. The porthole-shaped screen is very bright and offers 3 different display styles.

Essential information such as the resistance value, puff count, battery level, selected mode, and of course the power, are immediately readable. The box has several modes such as F(t), Eco, Variable Voltage, or Pulse. In practice, the F(t) mode corresponds to the most commonly used variable wattage.

It is possible to add the Smart function which detects the resistance value and suggests a vaping power. This is very practical, quite effective, and eliminates the need to manually choose a power. This function is especially relevant when used with the brand’s clearomizer.

The box works well and is responsive.

A Clearomizer for Direct Vaping

The iTank T clearomizer is designed for direct vaping. The focus is on vapor production without sacrificing flavors. Its 6 ml capacity is appreciable and avoids frequent refills. The drip tip is quite high and feels comfortable on the lips. With an internal diameter of 10 mm, the vapor volume is significant without being overwhelming.

Filling is done by sliding the top cap (the upper part of the clearomizer). The system is easily accessible as it is symbolized by a small red arrow. The filling hole is covered with a split silicone seal. This space is wide, but its opening does not easily accommodate the largest bottle tips. Not too much of a problem, as the vast majority of bottles are compatible with this opening.

The iTank T is a top airflow clearomizer. The air inlets that cool the coil are placed at the top (and opposite) of the clearomizer. This has the advantage of preventing common issues like liquid leaks at the base of the clearomizer found in more traditional configurations. The rotation of the ring that adjusts the airflow is firm but flexible enough for precise adjustment. A well-thought-out new feature is a numerical indication from 0 to 4 on the rotary ring, allowing quick adjustment thanks to these numbers.

The coil is housed in the base of the clearomizer after unscrewing the base. There is no specific placement direction for the coil, which is held in place by seals.

Two coils are provided in the kit: the GTI 0.4-ohm mesh coil and the 0.2-ohm coil. For the GTI 0.4-ohm coil, the vaping power ranges between 50 and 60 W, while the 0.2-ohm coil is used between 60 and 75 W. With its maximum power of 220 W, the Gen Max has no difficulty heating the coils for extended periods. The reputation of the GTI coils is well established.

The flavor rendering is excellent at all power levels. Other models (0.5 and 0.15 ohms) are available as options and compatible with the clearomizer. Whether vaping.
