Review: Doric Astra – Voopoo
Starter kits consisting of a box and a clearomizer are becoming increasingly rare in the vaping market. With the Doric Astra, Voopoo offers a delightful surprise for the end of the year. This is an excellent combo, whether you’re new to vaping or a more seasoned enthusiast.
A simple and effective kit
The Doric Astra kit is pleasant. It provides everything a beginner vaper would expect from equipment to start transitioning away from smoking. It is simple, sturdy, and particularly effective. This is a kit we widely recommend for effective vaping.
Technical specifications
An efficient little box
Underneath the Doric Astra box, a USB-C port enables fast charging for the built-in 2500 mAh battery. This provides comfortable autonomy for a compact kit, comparable to a box with a separate battery.
The included coils are energy-efficient, ensuring all-day use without requiring a recharge.
The top of the box features a spring-mounted connection for consistent contact with the clearomizer. The box can accommodate clearomizers up to 22 mm in diameter, though the Doric Astra kit is specifically designed for use with the included clearomizer.
On the front of the box, there are two buttons and a small slider. The main, larger button houses an LED and serves as the firing button to produce vapor with each press. The LED changes color to indicate the battery level. Below it, a smaller button adjusts the power across three levels (low, medium, high). The desired setting is selected by pressing this button twice.
A sturdy clearomizer
The Doric Astra clearomizer is well-equipped: it comes with two drip tips and two tanks, one of which is particularly reinforced. This reinforced tank features a glass reservoir encased in a metal cage, with two windows to monitor e-liquid levels. It’s both durable and practical for everyday use. Unless the device is dropped heavily, it’s unlikely to break the clearomizer.
At the top, a rotating ring adjusts the airflow cooling the coil. The ring doesn’t have a stopper but is firm enough for precise adjustments while remaining flexible to avoid difficulty in manipulation. Depending on individual preferences, the airflow can range from very tight to slightly airy. The Doric Astra kit leans more toward indirect draw, though it can produce small clouds of vapor. The top airflow adjustment prevents leaks during use.
Filling is straightforward. A quarter-turn unscrews the top cap to access the fill ports. A split seal prevents spills from overfilling. Machining on the clearomizer’s top cap makes opening and closing easier. The tank capacity is 3 ml.
Two coils are included with the Doric Astra kit:
·The ITO 1.2-ohm coil for vaping between 9 and 12 W. This coil is ideal for a very tight draw and economical power consumption.
·The ITO 0.7-ohm coil for use between 14 and 18 W. This coil works for dynamic MTL or a slightly more open draw but remains restricted.
The flavors are rich and well-rendered. Liquids are well-defined, with excellent aromatic detail. However, we recommend avoiding e-liquids with more than 50% VG for optimal wicking.

REVIEW OVERVIEW
SUMMARY
The Doric Astra kit is an excellent choice for starting vaping or as a secondary setup. It’s incredibly easy to use and delivers great flavors. It’s an excellent product for users prioritizing autonomy in a setup that’s more classic than a pod. Just be mindful of the VG content in the e-liquid used.
