Innokin Z Pod Nano Review | The Ultimate Stealth Device In 1 Precious Little Package

Today we’re bringing you a review of Innokin’s latest release, the Innokin Z Pod Nano Kit. Continuing their theme of simple to use, budget friendly pod kits, the Z Pod Nano is exactly that but also has plenty more to offer. It’s refillable with replaceable pods, has variable wattage control, variable airflow, is rechargeable, incorporates a small OLED display screen and as you’d expect being called “Nano” is very compact.

We received all 6 colors of the Z Pod Nano Kit which include 2 different Z Nano Pods (0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm) as part of the kit. The two tone color contrast of the device casing against the pod protective cap makes this look stylish and quite quirky.

As with all our reviews, we’ll give a quick overview first highlighting the main function of the Innokin Z Pod Nano and then jump into the main body of the review where we cover its design, functionality, performance and everything else in between.

Overview of the Innokin Z Pod Nano Kit

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Innokin Z Pod Nano is how small it is, followed by the striking two tone color contrast of the body/casing. The dimensions of the Z Pod Nano are 82.25mm tall, 26.5mm wide and 21.5mm deep with a weight of 45.5 grams making this an ideal stealth device.

The Z Pod Nano has a removable pod protecting top cap which magnetically attaches to the Z Pod Nano body. This is where the two-tone color comes into effect. The battery/body is one color and the removable top cap is another color as you can see from the included photos.

It’s a draw activated Mouth-to Lung (MTL) / Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) device with an adjustable output power of 6W – 15W plus a 700mAh capacity internal battery that’s rechargeable via the Type-C USB charging port on the bottom of the Z Pod Nano. This port is rated at 5V/1.0A and will fully charge the battery in approximately 30 minutes. It also has pass-through so you can vape while it’s being charged.

A small OLED display highlights the wattage setting, the battery status, pod resistance and your vape time together with the safety prompts. This display screen is very reminiscent of the Innokin Zyon pod kit we reviewed a couple of months ago.

Two refillable Z Nano 2ml capacity pods (0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm) are supplied with the kit and have side e-liquid fill ports with a clear PCTG casing including a variable airflow control adjustment on the bottom of the pod.

Z Pod Nano Kit Packaging
As is now standard across all Innokin devices, 100% recyclable cardboard is used for all their packaging including the spares which are housed in paper sachets. There are no plastic inserts or foil wrappers so everything is recyclable.

The packaging box is slightly different from the norm. A full length folded lift open front reveals the Z Pod Nano device with the 0.8 ohm pod and protective pod cover securely held in a fixed cardboard insert.

Opening the top of the box gains access to the 1.2 ohm 2ml Z Pod Nano Pod in its paper sachet. Opening the bottom of the box gives access to the USB-C charging cable. The quick start guide sits inside the box beneath the fixed cardboard insert and can be removed from either the top or bottom of the box.

All of the outer surfaces of the packaging box, excluding the top and bottom, are colored graded to match the color of the included device. Overall size and dimensions of the packaging are 132mm high x 71mm wide x 23mm deep.

  

The front of the packaging shows “INNOKIN”, a colored photo sticker of the included device with the color of the device underneath, “Z Pod Nano Kit” and the nicotine warning statement. The reverse side of the packaging includes the package contents, the manufacturer’s details, the relevant safety warnings, a bar code and the authentication scratch and verify label.

Interestingly Innokin still continue to include the following statement above the nicotine warning “The following warning applies when the product is used with nicotine-containing e-liquids”. I commend Innokin for making this point as it seems madness that manufacturers are forced to have a nicotine warning stating this product contains nicotine when it actually doesn’t.

The left hand side of the packaging includes the main features; “Palm-Sized Performance”, “Smart Wattage Control”, “Draw Activation”, “Intuitive OLED Screen” and “Adjustable Airflow”. The right side details “Innokin Platform Series” and “Designed by P Busardo Vapingreek”.

As you can see from the photos we received all six colors of the Z Pod Nano Kit for the purpose of this review.

Preparing to Use the Z Pod Nano Kit

Once you remove the Z Pod Nano device from the inner cardboard housing, remove the clear film protector from around the device. Pull off the colored protective pod top cap and lift out the Z Pod Nano Pod from the Z Pod Nano body pod recess.

Remove the orange protection sticker that’s placed across the bottom of the 0.8 ohm pod coil contact pins and airflow lever.

Open the silicone rubber fill port stopper on the side of the pod and fill the pod with your e-liquid. When filled, resecure the rubber stopper and reinsert the pod into the Z Pod Nano device.

The pod can only be fitted one way round; the hole in the bottom of the pod (just above the pod resistance) needs to align with the long pin in the pod recess. I recommend leaving the pod to stand for 10-15 minutes for the e-liquid to fully saturate the wick/coil before first using.

Switch the Z Pod Nano on by pressing the square colored control button 3 times in quick succession. Set the wattage to its lowest value (6W) and take a few draws gradually increasing the wattage and taking further draws until you reach your desired setting.

Z Pod Nano Body/Battery

The Innokin Z Pod Nano is a budget friendly and very compact, rectangular (box) shaped, draw activated pod device with an internal 700mAh capacity rechargeable battery. It’s a variable wattage device operating between 6W to 15W, adjustable in 0.5 watt steps.

It doesn’t have the conventional + and – adjustment buttons as the wattage is adjusted using the small single colored control button positioned within the black OLED display panel.

It also boasts “Smart Wattage Control” which detects the pod resistance and limits the maximum wattage that can be selected as follows:

·0.8 ohm pod: = 15W
·1.2 ohm pod: = 12W

A small and simple 0.425 inch single color OLED display on the front of the Z Pod Nano, including the 5.25mm square control button, sits within a 25mm x 8mm rectangular black opaque panel. The display information is minamalistic but includes a numerical wattage value, remaining battery charge icon, the Innokin brand name and a vape time reading.

The vape time reading (in seconds) replaces the numerical wattage value as you draw on the Z Pod Nano. It will remain displayed for approximately 2 seconds and then switch back to the set wattage value.

This display, although small, is clear to read and fairly bright. Turning the Z Pod Nano on and off is carried out by 3 quick clicks of the control button and the wattage adjustment is done by 2 quick clicks followed by multiple presses to reach your desired wattage level. We’ve covered the exact procedure of how to adjust the wattage in the Functionality section of this review.

Below the black opaque rectangular OLED display panel is the branding “Z Pod Nano” screen printed in discreet lettering. On the reverse side of the casing in the same position is “INNOKIN” in similar lettering.

On the bottom of the Z Pod Nano is the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/1.0A. Charging is carried out using the supplied USB-C cable and will fully charge the Z Pod Nano in approximately 30 minutes. It does have pass-through so you’re able to vape while it’s being charged.

This USB-C charging port sits within a black flush fitting panel with “Capacity”, “2.66Wh” and “700mAh” screen printed below the port. The base of the Z Pod Nano is flat so there are no problems with it being stood upright.

We believe it’s made out of Polycarbonate and comes in 6 different two tone colors. On first glance the Z Pod Nano looks to be a 1 piece body with the bottom two-thirds one color and the top third another color.

The top third is actually a removable pod protecting top cap that magnetically connects to the lower body. There are two 12mm x 7mm clear rectangular e-liquid windows, one either side, with a 9mm diameter hole in the top that passes over the round mouthpiece of the pod when it’s fitted.

Inside the top cap is a metal plate that provides the magnetic connection when it’s fitted which holds it firmly in place.

The 6 different colors in the Z Pod Nano range are:

These colors only apply to the protective top cap and the control button. The bottom two thirds of the Z Pod Nano body are Black or White. You can see what I mean from the above photos of the Z Pod Nano range.

 

 

The overall dimensions of the Z Pod Nano, including the protective top cap and mouthpiece measure 82.25mm high, 26.5mm wide and 21.5mm deep with a total weight of 45.5 grams. If you exclude the mouthpiece, the height of the Z Pod Nano body is 71.25mm making this a very compact device.

When you remove the protective top cap and pod, the pod recess is very different from the norm. Firstly the inner black frame of the pod recess extends the Z Pod Nano body by 3.25mm. When looking at the front of the Z Pod Nano, the right hand side edge of the inner frame also extends by 20.5mm which exactly matches the height of the attached pod.

When the Z Pod is fitted into the pod recess, it can only be fitted one way around. There’s a locating pin in the pod recess that aligns with the hole in the base of the pod. The pod then rests against the inside flat edge of the black vertical frame with the e-liquid fill port on the pod facing the opposite edge.

On the top of the extended side edge frame is a full width magnet which locates against the metal plate in the protective pod top cap. Also on the inside edge of the extended side frame are the safety marks, “UKCA”, “CE” and “Bin” logos.

 When looking inside the 8mm deep pod recess, there are two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins. Two diagonally opposed circular magnets and a vertical gold plated locating bar/auto draw sensor.

There are no menu options on the Z Pod Nano making it extremely easy to use and operate. The only adjustment or control is the variable wattage. It does have variable airflow but that’s on the pod so we’ll cover that in more detail in the Pod Design Section. It will also highlight the usual safety features on the OLED display screen such as:

Considering its very small and very compact, it does pack a punch! The budget friendly price tag makes this an ideal starter device and it still has a few features such as variable wattage and airflow plus the OLED display which will appeal to the more experienced vaper.

Z Pod Nano Pod

The Innokin Z Pod Nano kit comes supplied with two Z Pod Nano Pods as part of the kit. It comes pre-fitted with the 0.8 ohm pod and a 1.2 ohm pod is included in the spares pack. It’s primarily a MTL device but the airflow control button on the base of the pod will produce a RDL draw.

It’s manufactured out of completely clear PCTG material with a metal base section so the e-liquid level is clearly visible. Unlike the more standard shape of pods, the Z Nano Pod is nearly square shaped with a fixed 15.5mm tall circular mouthpiece.

Dimensions of the pod body are 24mm tall, 17.5mm wide by 15.5mm deep excluding the mouthpiece. The overall height of the pod including the mouthpiece is 40mm. These pods have integrated coils and are not replaceable so once the coil is spent the pod is disposed of and a new one fitted.

It has a 2ml e-liquid capacity with a top side fill e-liquid port concealed behind a flush fitting black silicone rubber stopper. This plug has an indented arrow on it which identifies which end is to be lifted away to gain access to the filling port.

When the plug is opened, the other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod and can be swivelled around as it’s held in place with a rubber pin. The fill port hole is slightly oval and measures 4mm – 4.5mm allowing for all e-liquid tip bottles.

The lower part and base of the Z Pod Nano pod is metal with a cross shaped black insert which houses the gold plated coil contact plates, a fixed single airflow intake hole and a small slider switch that can open or close a second slightly larger airflow intake hole.

Within the metal base plate is a locating hole which aligns with the protruding pin in the pod recess so the pod can only be fitted one way around. I’m not sure if this protruding pin is also the draw activated sensor as I couldn’t see anything else that resembles one.

Branding on the pod is all on the metal base plate and includes the “Pod Resistance” and the “UKCA”, “CE” and “Bin” logo safety marks.

When the pod is inserted into the Z Pod Nano, the OLED display will illuminate showing the approximate numerical pod resistance value and then extinguish after 3 seconds.

Despite the actual pod looking quite quirky, once the protective pod top cap is fitted, the only visible part is the mouthpiece and the coil through the two e-liquid viewing windows. The wicking ports on the coils are quite small so I would recommend using a 50/50 VG ratio e-liquid.

The Innokin Z Pod Nano is very simple and straightforward to use. Functionality is limited to a single control button that switches the device on/off and is used to adjust the variable wattage of 6W – 15W. It’s draw activated so doesn’t include a fire button.

There are no menu options, just the main display screen that shows the set wattage level, the remaining battery charge and a vape time reading.

The vape time reading is only present when you draw on the mouthpiece and will remain visible for approximately 2 seconds after you’ve drawn. After that it will switch back to the main display for a further 5 seconds.

The OLED display screen will also highlight the different levels of protection and any safety prompts through a sequence of different flashes for each condition.

Variable airflow control is limited to open or closed from a slider button on the bottom of the Z Nano pod. This basically allows for a restrictive MTL draw when closed or an airy MTL / RDL draw when open.

Quick Start Operation

Smart Wattage Control
Smart pod/coil detect auto reads the resistance of the fitted Z Nano Pod and will initially display this resistance value when the pod is inserted into the pod recess. Don’t panic if the measured resistance on the display doesn’t exactly match the pod resistance printed on the pod.

The Z Pod Nano will limit the maximum wattage that can be applied to each of the two different resistance pods so you can’t apply excessive wattage to a pod. You can decrease the wattage below the recommended power value if you wish as it still produces a really good vape.

Increasing/Decreasing the Wattage Level
Press the control button 2 times and the numerical power level will flash. While the display is flashing, each press of the control button will increase the wattage value in 0.5W steps. Holding the control button down will scroll through the wattage levels quicker.

If you want to reduce the wattage level, you have to first take it to its maximum wattage setting for the particular pod you’re using then the next press of the control button starts back at the lowest wattage value (6W).

Screen Timeout
The OLED display screen will remain illuminated for approximately 8 seconds after you draw on the Z Pod Nano and also after the control button is released.

Vape Cut-Off / Timeout
Cut-Off/Timeout is a safety feature to prevent prolonged drawing on the device/mouthpiece. Drawing continually for longer than 10 seconds will activate the cut-off. The OLED display screen will show “—-“ and flash 10 times.

Airflow

The Z Pod Nano has an adjustable airflow switch on the bottom of the pod which has to be removed from the Z Pod Nano in order to get access to the switch. There is a fixed airflow hole which is always open that provides the restrictive MTL draw. The airflow switch will open a second hole if required which will increase the airflow providing an airy MTL or restrictive DTL draw.

Two Z Pod Nano pods are supplied with the kit; a 0.8 ohm Kanthal mesh pod and a 1.2 ohm Kanthal mesh pod. They do have integrated coils so are non-replaceable. After nearly 4 weeks of use I’m still using the same 2 pods that came with one of the kits and both are still performing very well.

As always, when filling the pod for the first time, leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes before you use it to allow the e-liquid to fully saturate the wicking material. When using a new pod I also prefer to set the wattage to its lowest setting and take a few draws to pull e-liquid through the coil. Gradually increment the wattage, each time taking a few draw until you reach your sweet spot.

Because of the fairly small wicking ports in each of the coils, I would recommend using a 50/50 ratio e-liquid when using the Z Pod Nano pods. Throughout the time I’ve been using these pods there has been no signs of any leaks or condensation on the coil contact pins.

I did use a 70VG/30PG ratio e-liquid through the pods for a couple of refills with no problems of dry hits.

There is no visible difference between the two different resistance pods as the wicking port holes are the same size. The only way I could tell the difference was to look at the resistance value printed on the base of each pod.

Z Pod Nano 0.8 Ohm Pod (pre-installed)
Innokin specify the recommended wattage range for this pod is between 12W-14W. Smart Wattage Control limits the operating wattage of the Z Pod Nano from 6W to 15W.

After priming and slowly bedding in the coil, I set the wattage to its minimum value of 6W. Even at this wattage, a 3 second draw produced good flavor with a decent amount of vapor. Increasing the wattage to 8W intensified the draw with increased flavor and vapor.

Taking the wattage to 10W was about right for me. A two second MTL draw with the airflow switch closed brought out the flavor of my e-liquid very well with more than expected vapor from the smallish coil.

12W and then 14W gave me the same results with the draw duration reduced to around 1 second. Draw activation worked really well and I didn’t get any dry hits from using either the 50/50 or 70/30 e-liquid mix.

I would say my ideal setting for this pod was between 8W to 10W with the airflow closed for a MTL draw or the airflow open for a RDL draw. My draw duration was always between 1.5 – 2 seconds and the throat hit from my 3mg strength e-liquid was pretty good. Yes things intensified with a higher wattage but this is at the expense of reduced battery time.

Z Pod Nano 1.2 Ohm Pod
Innokin specify the recommended wattage range for this pod is between 9W-12W. Smart Wattage Control limits the operating wattage of the Z Pod Nano from 6W to 12W.

Once primed and bedded in, with the wattage set to its lowest level of 6W the flavor and vapor was ok but not as good as I found on the 0.8 ohm pod. With the airflow open I was finding the draw was quite airy so closed it off to improve the draw. Taking the wattage to 7.5W was enough to increase the flavor and vapor and also improve the draw and throat hit.

Increasing the wattage to 9W really brought this coil into its own. The flavor was spot on, the vapor was quite dense and the throat hit was good. The draw with the airflow closed gave a pretty tight MTL vape yet with the airflow open it gave a very good RDL draw.

10W through to 12W really increases the intensity of the draw producing strong flavor with dense vapor. My ideal setting for this pod was 9W which was pretty much the same as the 0.8 ohm pod.

Any Leaks?
Throughout my time using the Z Pod Nano there was no evidence of any leaks and zero condensation around the base of the coil and in the pod recess.

Obviously as the coils get older leaking can start to occur and is a good indication that it’s time to replace the coil.

As with ANY pod, I always recommend if you’re not vaping it for a day or longer then remove the pod, otherwise it will probably leak into the pod recess and cause damage.

Z Pod Nano Performance Summary
Both the 0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm Z Pod Nano Pods were impressive and I found it difficult to choose between the two. Both gave good performance with very good flavor and dense vapor, especially given the size of the coils.

Longevity of the pods is a little unknown as they are new out. I’ve only been using the Z Pod Nano for just over a month now with both the supplied pods but so far I’ve not had to replace them.

Draw activation never faltered and the battery power was more than enough to keep me going throughout the day. The draw is smooth but does produce a little noise.

Innokin Z Pod Nano Battery Performance
The Z Pod Nano is powered by an internal 700mAh capacity battery which is a decent size considering the very small dimensions of the Z Pod Nano device. It comes with a nominal charge but I would recommend fully charging the battery first before you use it. Our How to Charge section covers what you can expect when charging the Z Pod Nano.

Battery performance is always subjective and depends on the power (wattage) you vape at, the type (resistance) of pod you’re using and your vaping style i.e. duration and frequency of your draw.

On average I was getting between 7 – 8.5 hours vaping time from a fully charged battery before the battery cut-out. My wattage during this time was set to 9 watts when using both the 0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm pods.

The Z Pod Nano indicates the status of the remaining battery charge on the OLED display screen with a battery icon consisting of 4 individual white bars; 4 bars equal full charge, 1 bar equal’s low charge. Drawing on the pod or pressing the control button illuminates the display so you can see the remaining charge left.

Once the battery runs out of charge (Low Voltage Cut-Off), the Innokin logo and the battery icon on the OLED display will flash 8 times. At this point, the Z Pod Nano will require charging. It does have ‘pass-through’ though so you don’t have to wait until it’s fully charged.

The intensity of the draw remained constant and didn’t diminish as the battery drained.

How do I Fill the Z Pod Nano Pod?

The Z Pod Nano pod is a side-fill design which is concealed behind a black silicone rubber stopper on the side edge of the pod. The pod doesn’t have to be removed from the Z Nano Pod device in order to be filled but the colored pod protective cap will have to be removed to gain access to the fill port.

Once the protective cap is removed, you’ll see the flush fitting black silicone rubber flap on the side of the pod. Gently lift this flap open from the side edge of the rubber stopper as shown by the little directional arrow. This rubber stopper is held in place by a rubber pin so it can be swiveled around giving greater access to the fill port.

Place your e-liquid bottle tip into this 4.5mm oval opening and fill with e-liquid. To get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the pod you will have to tilt the Z Pod Nano on its side.

Once filled, replace the black silicone rubber flap ensuring it’s securely fitted and then refit the colored protective pod cap.

If you want to remove the pod first before filling, once it’s filled and the pod is reinserted, the Z Pod Nano OLED display screen will illuminate and show the pod resistance value. This is only an approximate figure, for example the 0.8 ohm pod was showing 0.86 ohms on the one we were using.

Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/pod.

When and How do I Change the Z Pod Nano Pod?
Because both the included 0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm Z Pod Nano pods have fixed non replaceable coils, when the coil starts to degrade after a few weeks of use, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted.
An indication of the coil degrading will show by either a loss of flavor and/or a lack of vapor. Continuing beyond this loss of flavor / vapor will finally result in a nasty burnt taste. Equally the coil could fail going open or short circuit. Either way, when this happens discard the pod and fit a new one.
Remove the colored pod protection cap and pull the pod away from the Z Pod Nano battery/body. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well as it will have been tainted by the burnt out coil.
When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How do I Fill the Pod. As you insert the pod into the Z Pod Nano body, the OLED display will show the pod resistance and then extinguish.
How do I Charge the Innokin Z Pod Nano?
Once the Z Pod Nano’s 700mAh capacity battery runs out of charge, the battery icon and Innokin logo on the OLED display screen will flash 8 times and will then require charging.
Using the supplied USB to Type-C charging cable, connect the cable into the Type-C port on the bottom of the Z Pod Nano body and the other end into a suitable USB power source (1A or higher).
When the Z Pod Nano is first placed on charge, the OLED display illuminates and flashes for 3 seconds. The small bars in the battery icon will start to count upwards and after approximately 5 seconds the display will extinguish and remain blank throughout the charging cycle.
Pressing the control button while it’s charging will bring up the display screen showing the battery icon incrementing but only for a further 5 seconds. Full charge can only be verified when you press the control button and the battery icon stops cycling and shows four static bars.
The USB charging circuit of the Z Pod Nano is specified as 5V/1.0A so will fully charge the device in approximately 30 minutes. The Z Pod Nano does have ‘pass-through’ so you’re able to charge and vape at the same time, but this will increase the overall charging time.
During the charging cycle, the body of the Z Pod Nano does remain reasonably cool to the touch. However, I’d recommend charging this and any other vape mod or pod on a non-flammable surface.
As with any vape device, NEVER leave your mod unattended whilst charging.

It’s a great performing vape kit and perfect for carrying out and about. If stealth vaping is your thing then I strongly recommend it! It’s great as a starter kit but equally as good as a backup pod kit or even your main vape kit.
I’m sure the price tag will be favorable as with all Innokin products making them affordable to have a couple on the go at any one time.

The Innokin Z Pod Nano Kit is a great device for the newer vaper who still wants the simplicity but wants the flexibility of a refillable pod with variable wattage and airflow control. Smart Wattage Control is perfect for users who are unsure how high they can increase the wattage for each pod type.
Despite being very small, which is perfect for stealth vaping, it performs really well. The flavor from the two included pods is good with plenty of vapor. The display tells you what you need to know without over complicating things and the battery life is good enough to keep you going throughout the day. Pass-through vaping is also really handy to have for those of you that need to vape while it’s being charged.
Hopefully the budget friendly price tag of the Z Pod Nano Kit will make it perfect for purchasing a couple of these devices for extended vaping.
I cannot end this summary without mentioning the protective pod top cap. It gives that little extra protection to the pod while also adding to the overall aesthetics of the device too!
