Innokin Trine Pod System Review | 3-In-1 Vaping for Greatly Improved Sustainability

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve been reviewing the new Innokin Trine pod system and as always Innokin continue to push the boundaries and think outside the box. The Trine we believe is a first of its kind in that it’s a conventional pen style pod kit with the usual features; refillable pod, variable wattage and adjustable airflow BUT introduces one MAJOR ground breaking difference.

Rather than following the usual format of an integrated internal battery, Innokin have decided to implement a rechargeable removable battery pack that slots into the bottom of the Trine control body. This not only greatly increases the sustainability of the device but is also the industry’s first Eco-Safe battery recycling solution.

Once the battery becomes depleted after approximately 2 years use of charge/discharge cycles, a simple press of the fire/control button will safely discharge the battery using Innokin’s patented EcoDrainTM technology. This makes it much safer for disposal and recycling! You then simply pop in another battery pack into the Trine body and it’s as good as new.

With this new system comes the additional benefit that you can purchase spare battery packs to carry with you, further increasing your vaping time.

Innokin continue to release good quality high performance low cost vape devices and this Trine pod system covers all those bases and more! We’ve reviewed many Innokin devices over the years and thoroughly commend their customer service, attention to detail and quality of product.

As always we will give a quick overview covering the main points and features of the Trine and then jump into the main body of the review.

Overview of the Innokin Trine Pod System

The Innokin Trine pod system is without doubt a landmark concept in the small cost effective pen style pods that we’ve all come to love. Marketed as a 3-in-1 device, it has a refillable (top fill) range of 2ml pods, two of which (0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm) are included in the kit. The Trine body that controls the functionality and a removable rechargeable 1000mAh capacity battery pack that slots seamlessly into the bottom of the Trine body.

It’s a variable wattage device, adjustable from 6W-25W with Smart coil detect that controls the available wattage range for each pod type. The pods are also compatible with Nic-Salts and Freebase nicotine. Variable airflow via a side located slider lever provides Mouth-To Lung (MTL) and Restricted-Direct-To-Lung (RDL) vaping styles.

Charging the Trine is carried out via the side located Type-C USB port specified as 5V/1.0A and will fully charge the battery in under 1 hour. Firing on the Trine is both auto-draw and fire button control with the oval fire button located on the front of the Trine body positioned within an opaque black square panel that also incorporates a rectangular color changing LED and a small 0.65 inch OLED display.

Functionality is straightforward and facilitates “Smart” coil detect and variable wattage adjustment. The OLED display highlights the remaining battery charge icon, numerical wattage value, vape time, voltage and coil/pod resistance readings. The rectangular color changing LED in the center of the fire button monitors the remaining battery charge status and changes color as the battery charge decreases.

There are a total of 6 different colors in the Innokin Trine kit range:

·Purple – Blue
·Gold – Pink
·Ivory White
·Solar Red
·Klein Blue
·Slate Black

The first two colors; ‘Purple – Blue’ and ‘Gold – Pink’ are color graded over the Trine body while the remaining 4 colors, White, Red, Blue and Black are solid colors. We received all 6 colors from Innokin which can be seen throughout this review.

Innokin Trine Packaging

As is now standard across all Innokin devices they continue to use 100% recyclable buff cardboard for all their packaging. This also includes the spares which are housed in paper sachets.

The packaging box is a folded lift to open lid with a cardboard insert housing the Trine Pod system. Beneath the lift out cardboard insert are the spare Vcap 0.8 ohm pod, charging cable and the user manual.

All the outer surfaces of the box are plain buff colored with the exception of the large colored sticker that wraps around half the box that forms a seal. The right side of the packaging which is blue shows the Trine A+B+C Solution; Atomizer, Battery and Control.

This sticker shows the Trine kit in the color you’ve chosen on the front of the box with its main features; “3-in-1 ABC Solution – Reshape, Replace, Redefine”, “1000mAh Replaceable Battery”, “6W – 25W Adjustable Power”, “Compatible with Nic Salts and Freebase”, “Leak-Proof Top Refills”, “Safer Battery Recycling” and “EcoDrainTM” together with the standard nicotine warning.

The left side of the packaging shows another photo of the Trine in the color of the included device and its color name. The reverse side of the packaging box includes the package contents, manufacturer’s details, a bar code, authentication scratch and verification label and the relevant safety and nicotine warnings.

Overall size and dimensions of the packaging are 144mm high x 70mm wide x 37mm deep. We’ve included a photo showing the 6 different colors we received for the purpose of our review.

Preparing to Use the Innokin Trine

Once you’ve unboxed your Trine Pod system and removed it from the inner cardboard tray, take out the Vcap 0.6 ohm pod from the Trine body and remove the orange protection sticker that’s placed across the bottom of the pod that covers the magnets and coil contact pins.

Remove the snap-fit duckbill style mouthpiece from the top of the Vcap pod. There are two small holes in the top of the pod; use the clear outer hole for filling with e-liquid, do NOT try and fill through the black center colored hole.

Once you’ve filled the pod with your e-liquid, refit the duckbill mouthpiece ensuring it clicks back into place and leave the pod to stand for 10-15 minutes before you use it. This allows the e-liquid to fully saturate the coil.

When you reinsert the Vcap pod into the Trine body pod recess, it will display “OFF Click 3X ON”. Switch the Trine ON (3 clicks) and the small rectangular LED in the fire/control button will flash red, yellow then green and the OLED display screen will illuminate.

When first using a new pod, I usually lower the wattage to its minimum value, take a few draws then increase the wattage each time between draws until I reach my sweet spot to slowly bed the new coil/pod in.

We’ve covered how to Charge, Fill and Adjust your Innokin Trine in the relevant sections of this review. You can click on these hyperlinks if you want to go direct to those sections.

Innokin Trine Design and Appearance

The Trine Pod System Kit consists of 3 separate parts; the Vcap pod, the Trine control body and the removable battery pack. For clarity we’ve detailed each of these parts in the 3 following sections.

Trine Control Body

The Innokin Trine is a pen style (flattened tube shape) device constructed out of Aluminum Alloy and measures 88.2mm tall (excluding the pod) by 25.86mm wide by 15.57mm deep. It weighs in at a very lightweight 20.5 grams (excluding the battery and pod).

It’s a variable wattage pod device with a power output of 6W to 25W and is adjustable in 0.5W steps. There are no + or – control buttons as everything is adjusted using the oval fire button which we’ve covered in greater detail in the Functionality section of this review.

It also boasts Smart coil detect which recognizes the resistance of the pod that’s fitted and limits the minimum and maximum wattage that can be applied to the coil/pod.

Two methods of firing the Trine are available; either auto-draw or using the oval fire/control button that’s positioned within the smoked black square face with rounded edges on the front of the Trine casing just below the OLED display.

This fire/control button also incorporates a rectangular color changing LED that in addition to the battery icon on the OLED display, provides a visual indication of the remaining battery charge status as follows:

·Red LED = <10% of remaining charge
·Yellow LED = 10% – 30% of remaining charge
·Green LED = > 30% of remaining charge

The 0.65 inch single color (white) OLED display is bright and clear to read and displays all the major operating settings including:

·Numerical Power value (wattage)
·Remaining battery charge icon
·Pod/coil resistance
·Voltage applied to the coil
·Vape time reading (seconds)
·Safety prompts

Variable airflow control is carried out by a slider lever (right-hand side) on the opposite side edge to the USB charging port which is only very slightly raised above the surface of the panel. The movement of this slider is quite restrictive so it shouldn’t inadvertently move on its own and has a very positive feel to it. Mouth To Lung (MTL), Restricted Direct To Lung (RDL) and even Direct To Lung (DTL) vaping styles are achieved by the combination of the airflow slider and the type of pod (pod resistance) you’re using.

Restricting the airflow is performed by moving the slider upwards towards the top of the Trine control body and opening the airflow by moving the slider downwards. The slider has a total of 3 holes in the movable plate so can be fined tuned to suit your style of draw.

On the left hand side of the Trine control body is the Type-C USB charging port, specified as 5V/1.0A. Charging is carried out using the supplied USB-C cable and will fully charge the Trine in just under 1 hour. It does have ‘pass-through’ so you are able to vape it while it’s being charged.

Note: The 1000mAh capacity removable battery pack can only be charged when it’s fitted into the Trine base.

The base of the Trine has the battery pack recess with two side edge cut-outs that locate with the two latching tags on the battery pack. Within this very deep recess are two + and – battery pins that align with the battery terminals on the battery pack when it’s fitted.

The battery can be fitted either way round and has a flat polished base which easily allows the Trine to stand upright.

At the top of the Trine is a 13mm deep pod recess. It’s oval shaped so the pod can be fitted either way around. In the pod recess are 2 small rectangular magnets that locate with the pod when it’s fitted, 2 gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins, an auto-draw control sensor and an airway chamber that leads down to the airflow control lever.

Innokin’s branding is fairly discrete and kept to a minimum with the product name “TRINE” screen printed on the lower section of the body below the fire/control button. The usual CE markings are printed on the reverse side of the Trine towards the base of the body. The only other visible branding is “INNOKIN” on the flat base of the battery pack.

There are no menu options to worry about as the main OLED display shows all of the user parameters. The display then switches to a vape time readout during your draw which remains visible for 2 seconds before switching back to the wattage reading.

With regards to safety features, the Innokin Trine provides the following prompts such as:

·Vape Cut-Off: 10 second timeout
·Low Battery Voltage (3.3V)
·No Coil/Pod Detected
·High Resistance
·Low Resistance
·Short Circuit
·High Temperature warning

Overall I’m really impressed with the design, appearance and simplicity of the Trine. The build quality and aesthetics look really good and it has a robust and quality feel to it, despite being extremely lightweight. The OLED display and color changing LED provide all the user information needed.

The standout feature that sets the Trine apart from any of its competitors has to be the removable battery pack. This really does bring so many positives in terms of sustainability and longevity.

Innokin Vcap Pod

The Innokin Trine pod system kit comes supplied with two different resistance Vcap pods; 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm. There is also a 1.2 ohm pod which can be purchased separately. Innokin were kind enough to send us the 1.2 ohm Vcap pod to try and we have included this in our review.

Each Vcap pod has a 2ml e-liquid capacity and is constructed out of clear PCTG material. They are a leak free top fill system concealed under a removable duckbill style mouthpiece. Dimensions of the pods are 35.5mm tall (22.5mm when fitted) by 25mm wide and 15mm deep.

The different resistance pods are instantly recognizable by the colored silicone rubber bung at the base of the non-replaceable mesh coil:

·0.6 ohm pod = Orange
·0.8 ohm pod = Blue
·1.2 ohm pod = Green

At its tip, the snap fit mouthpiece is 20mm wide by 6mm deep tapering down to a 7mm oval opening that leads down to an internal circular chimney and onto the top of the coil.

To gain access to the e-liquid fill port, the mouthpiece is removed by levering the mouthpiece off the pod from front to back. This can be done with the pod in-situ or removed, whichever you find easier.

Once the mouthpiece is removed, there are two circular holes in the top of the pod. The center hole has a black O-ring which leads down to the top of the coil; do NOT use this hole for filling. The second outer hole is the e-liquid filling port and has a clear silicone membrane that you pass your e-liquid nozzle through.

On the bottom of the pod are 2 small rectangular magnets that secure the pod and two circular coil contact plates that align with the corresponding connections in the Trine pod recess. There are also 2 open holes that provide the air intake.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the coil is integrated into the pod and is therefore non replaceable. Once the coil has degraded and becomes unusable, the pod is disposed of and a new one fitted.

Inserting the pod is straightforward enough, simply offer the bottom of the pod into the top recess of the Trine body and it will slide in and be locked into place by the two bar magnets. When the pod is inserted the color changing LED and OLED display will illuminate briefly.

Removing the pod is carried out by grasping the pod body and lifting away from the Trine body.

Branding on these pods has “Vcap Pod”, “INNOKIN” and the “coil/pod resistance” with the recommended “best wattage”:

·0.6 ohm pod – Best between 20W – 22W
·0.8 ohm pod – Best between 12W – 14W
·1.2 ohm pod – Best between 11W – 12W

The wicking ports on the coils are reasonably sized and Innokin recommend using a 50/50 VG e-liquid. I have also used 70VG/30PG through the two included pods and the 1.2 ohm pod with no problems of dry hits.

Innokin Trine Battery Pack

The Innokin Trine pod system, unlike all of its competitors, is not powered by the standard fixed internal lipo battery. Instead the Trine is the first pen style pod device that incorporates a rechargeable and replaceable battery pack.

It also features the industry’s first Eco-Safe battery discharge technology called EcoDrain, patented by Innokin, which allows you to safely discharge the battery before disposal, minimizing the risk of fire hazards.

As with any internal battery powered device, once the battery fails to hold its charge after continued use, it becomes unusable and the whole device is then useless. The Trine on the other hand only requires a new replaceable battery pack to keep it functioning for many years to come.

The Trine lithium-ion battery pack is a model B1000 (Model One) meaning it has a capacity of 1000mAh and is rated at 3.80Wh/3.80V with a limited voltage of 4.35V. Innokin specify the battery is good for a minimum of 300 charge/discharge cycles so is expected to last in excess of 2 years.

If you are a user of DSL cameras then the battery pack that powers the camera is not too dissimilar to that which fits in the Trine pod system. New Trine battery packs can be purchased for around £8

Dimensions of the B1000 battery are 45.7mm tall by 25.5mm wide and 13.3mm deep and it weighs in at 21.3 grams. One end of the battery pack has 3 gold plated contact terminal plates; 2 outer negative terminals and 1 central positive terminal. This enables the battery to be fitted either way around in the battery recess of the Trine.

The other end of the battery is flat and has a polished metal base with the branding “INNOKIN” within a diagonal etched mesh grid. On each side edge of the battery pack are sprung plastic tags which align with the cut-outs in the base of the Trine body.

When the battery is fitted into the Trine, these tags locate in the cut-outs and hold it securely in place. Removing the battery pack is carried out by pushing these tags in and removing the battery. These tags are quite stiff so it does take a little pressure to release the locking mechanism.

Once the battery no longer holds its charge and you decide to purchase a new battery pack, the battery can be safely discharged in the Trine body making it safe for disposal. We’ve covered the discharge process in the Functionality section of this review.

I have to say the implementation of a removable battery pack is a fantastic idea, works extremely well and takes the smaller pen style pod device to a new level.

Innokin Trine Functionality

The Innokin Trine is a simple and straightforward pod device with a 6W – 25W variable wattage adjustable in 0.5W steps. It also has “Smart” coil detection, variable airflow control and is both auto-draw and fire button controlled.

Smart coil detect measures the resistance of the fitted pod and restricts the maximum allowable wattage for each pod type. This protects the user from applying excessive wattage to the pod.

One thing I did notice is that while the smart coil detection auto sets min and max power levels it doesn’t appear to automatically select an optimum starting wattage.

Unlike conventional devices, there are no + and – wattage control buttons, instead everything is controlled and adjusted using the fire/control button. A quick start guide of the fire/control button operations are as follows:

·Fire/Control button pressed 3 times turns the device on or off
·Fire/Control button pressed 2 times initiates the wattage adjustment
·With the wattage value flashing, each press of the button increments the wattage value in 0.5W steps

It incorporates a color changing LED in the center of the fire/control button that shows the remaining battery charge status as follows:

·Red LED = <10% of remaining charge
·Yellow LED = 10% – 30% of remaining charge
·Green LED = > 30% of remaining charge

It also illuminates red when the Trine is placed on charge and remains illuminated until it reaches 90% of its full charge. The LED will then change to green for the remaining 10% of its charging cycle until full charge is achieved, at which point the LED extinguishes.

In addition to the color changing LED is a 0.65 inch OLED display screen that shows the main operating parameters as detailed below.  The display is quite small but all of the user information is clear to read.

·Numerical Power value (wattage)
·Remaining battery charge icon
·Pod/coil resistance
·Voltage applied to the coil
·Vape time reading in seconds (See Note)

Note: When you press the fire/control button to vape, the numerical wattage value reading switches to a vape time reading and remains visible for 2 seconds after the fire button is released, at which point it reverts back to the wattage value.

Unfortunately the Trine doesn’t include a fire button Lock/Unlock function and doesn’t include a Puff Counter on the OLED display.

When the Trine is switched off, pressing the fire/control button will bring up the prompt on the OLED display “OFF Click 3X On”. Press the fire button 3 times and the color changing LED will flash red, yellow then green and the OLED display will show the main display.

Switching the Trine off by 3 presses of the fire/control button will make the LED flash 2 times and the OLED display screen will highlight the “OFF Click 3X On” prompt again.

The Innokin Trine LED and OLED displays will also show different prompts to highlight individual functions and the safety protections as follows:

Increasing/Decreasing the Wattage Level
Press the fire/control button 2 times in quick succession and the numerical power (wattage) level will flash. While the display is flashing, each press of the fire button will increase the wattage value in 0.5W steps. Holding the fire button down will scroll through the wattage levels quicker.

When reducing the wattage level, you have to first take it to the maximum wattage allowable for that particular pod you’re using and then the next press of the fire/control button reverts back to the lowest wattage value.

Screen Timeout
The display screen will remain illuminated for 7 seconds after the fire button is released and then go blank. Pressing the fire button or drawing on the pod will reilluminate the OLED display.

Airflow
The Innokin Trine has adjustable airflow control via a single slider lever on the side of the casing. Moving this lever upwards will decrease the airflow and restrict the draw, sliding it downwards will increase the airflow and provide an airy draw.

MTL, RDL and DTL vaping styles can all be achieved by selecting the appropriate resistance pod and adjusting the airflow position as required.

There are very few devices that can produce all 3 vaping styles and we’ve found with the airflow fully restricted it gives a really nice tight draw, irrespective of which pod you’re using.

EcoDrain / Battery Discharge
To ensure safe discharge of the battery once its reached the end of life, switch the Trine OFF. Connect the Trine via the Type-C USB port using the charging cable to a power source and press the fire/control button quickly 10 times. This starts the self-discharge mode and the recycling symbol will be displayed on the OLED display screen.

The battery can now be removed and safely disposed of in an appropriate recycling center.

Innokin Trine Pod System Performance

Two Vcap pods are supplied with the Trine pod kit; a 0.6 ohm Kanthal mesh pod and a 0.8 ohm Kanthal mesh pod. We received the additional 1.2 ohm pod and have included our findings on this one too.

As always, when filling the pod for the first time leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes before you use it to allow the e-liquid to fully saturate the wicking material. I also prefer to set the wattage to its lowest setting and take a few draws to pull e-liquid through the coil when using a new pod. Gradually increment the wattage, each time taking a few draw until you reach your sweet spot.

I also found with these pods they perform very well even below the minimum wattage specified for each pod type.

Innokin recommend using a 50/50 ratio e-liquid when using their Vcap pods which worked very well with no evidence of any leaks. I also used a 70VG/30PG ratio e-liquid through the pods with no problems of dry hits.

Each of the Vcap pods has the coil resistance and the minimum and maximum recommended wattage range printed on the pod casing. I would never exceed the maximum wattage rating for the pod and more often than not I vape under the minimum recommended for the pod.

Vcap 0.6 ohm Pod – Orange (pre-installed)

Innokin specify the best wattage range for this pod is between 20W – 22W. Smart coil detect automatically sets the operating wattage range of the Trine from 10W to 25W.

I found the flavor and vapor came through straightaway and was surprisingly great at the lowest wattage of 10W, even though it was a long slow draw. Incrementing the wattage by 2W each time up to 20W slowly increased the speed of draw and the flavor was equally as good. Vapor at the lowest wattage of 10W was very good and the higher I took the wattage the more dense the vapor became.

Adjusting the airflow fully open gave a nice DTL draw and closing the airflow produced a tight MTL draw. With the airflow half open a very nice RDL draw could be achieved.

The results from this pod proved to be really good and I found my ideal settings were between 12W – 14W with the airflow fully open.

Vcap 0.8 ohm Pod – Blue

Innokin specify the best wattage range for this pod is between 12W – 14W. Smart coil detect automatically sets the operating wattage range of the Trine from 6W to 15W.

The flavor and vapor started to appear at 6W. Increasing the wattage to 8W really started to bring out the flavor of my e-liquid and produced a nice amount of vapor. Turning it up to 10W increased the vapor while I found settling at 12W was about right for this pod.

Flavor was really good and again the vapor was really dense. Airflow wide open for a DTL draw or half open for a RDL draw gave great results. Shutting the airflow I found didn’t work too well for me as the draw was too tight.

The 0.8 ohm pod is another really good pod and on par with the 0.6 ohm pod. Gun to my head though I would opt for the 0.6 ohm pod.

Vcap 1.2 ohm Pod – Green (sold separately)

Innokin specify the best wattage range for this pod is between 11W – 12W. Smart coil detect automatically sets the operating wattage range of the Trine from 6W to 13W.

The flavor and vapor was really good at the lowest wattage of 6W even from a short 1-2 second draw. Increasing the wattage to 8W was perfect for me and produced great flavor with dense vapor. Turning it up to 11W was good but I found the ideal setting for me was back down to 8W with the airflow just off the closed mark. This gives a tight MTL draw.

Even though the 1.2 ohm pod is designed for a MTL draw, I really enjoyed fully opening the airflow with the wattage set to 8W and using a DTL style. I even found setting it to 6W at this airflow setting was a great vape.

Vcap Pod Summary

Both the Vcap 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm pods that came with the kit and the additional 1.2 ohm pod are very impressive. Flavor and vapor from them is really good. The choice of pod slightly depends on your vaping style although I have to say the wide airflow adjustment caters for all styles.

I would honestly rate all the Vcap pods as being excellent for flavor and vapor. I mainly used my DIY e-liquid flavors through them and they picked out each of the flavors really well. My 3mg strength e-liquids also gave a great throat hit.

Having reviewed many different pods over the years, I’ve found some tend to be a little lack luster and require Nic Salts at a higher strength nicotine to give you the throat hit and bring out the flavor of the e-liquid. These Vcap pods do not suffer from this problem.

Longevity of the pods are a little unknown as I’ve only been using the Trine kit for the last few weeks, but so far I’ve not had to replace the pods yet.

Innokin Trine Battery Performance

The Innokin Trine is powered by a replaceable and rechargeable 1000mAh capacity battery pack which as I’ve already mentioned has several advantages over the standard fixed integrated battery pod devices. It does come with a nominal charge but I would recommend fully charging the battery pack first before you use it. Our How to Charge section covers what you can expect when charging the Innokin Trine.

Charging time will take approximately 1 hour to fully charge via the on board Type-C USB port using the supplied cable and on average provides approximately 13 hours vaping time before the battery needs charging again. This was gauged using the 0.6 ohm pod at 15W with a 2-3 second draw.

Battery performance is always subjective and depends on the power (wattage) you vape at, the type (resistance) of pod you’re using, your vaping style and the condition of your battery. My vape time increased when using the 0.8 ohm and 1.2 ohm pods due to the reduced wattage needed.

The Trine indicates the status of the remaining battery charge in two different ways. The OLED display has a battery icon in the top right hand corner that slowly diminishes and the color changing LED in the fire/control button changes color too:

·Red LED = <10% of remaining charge
·Yellow LED = 10% – 30% of remaining charge
·Green LED = > 30% of remaining charge

These indications are pretty accurate and once the LED turns red you still have around one hour of vaping time before the Trine shuts down.

Once the battery is depleted of its charge, the OLED display will show a “LOW VOLT” prompt and the LED will flash red 8 times. At this point the Trine will need to be charged to continue vaping or if you have a spare battery pack you simply swap it out for a freshly charged battery.

The intensity of the draw remained the same throughout the discharge cycle of the battery, even up to the point when the low voltage cut-off prompt kicked in.

How do I Fill the Innokin Vcap Pod?

The Trine Vcap pods have a top fill design which is concealed under the duckbill style mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is a secure snap fit so it does take a bit of pressure to pull the mouthpiece away from the top of the pod. It can be filled with the pod in situ or removed if you prefer.

With the mouthpiece removed, the e-liquid filling port is the outer hole that’s covered with a clear silicone membrane that you pass the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle through. The center positioned hole that’s black in color is the top of the coil, DO NOT use this hole for filling.

Pass the tip of your e-liquid bottle through the opening of the silicone rubber membrane and fill the Vcap pod with your e-liquid. The pod is completely clear so your e-liquid is clearly visible. Once filled, remove the e-liquid bottle tip from the filling port and resecure the mouthpiece ensuring it snaps back into place.

However make sure you don’t let your e-liquid level run down too low before you top up the pod. If the coil wicking ports are not covered with e-liquid, the coil will dry out and cause dry hits which will destroy the coil.

Quick Tip: If you are using a brand new pod for the first time, fill with e-liquid and leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of your coil/pod.

When and How do I Change the Vcap Pod?
Because the Vcap pods have non-replaceable coils, when the coil starts to degrade in the pod after a few weeks/months use, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted.

An indication of the pod degrading will show by either a loss of flavor or a lack of vapor. In a worst case scenario you’ll get a severe nasty burnt taste. It is possible too that the coil could fail completely indicating a short circuit or open circuit prompt. Either way, discard the pod and fit a new one.

Pull the pod up and away from the Trine body pod recess. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well.

When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How Do I Fill The Pod, written earlier on in this review. As you insert the pod into the Trine body, the main OLED display will illuminate showing the pod resistance and the LED will initially flash.

How do I Charge the Innokin Trine?
When the Trine OLED display indicates “LOW VOLT” it will stop working and will need to be placed on charge. Even though the battery pack is removable, it can only be charged when connected with the Trine body.

Use a USB to Type-C charging cable connected into the Type-C port on the side of the Trine device. The specified charging circuit of the Trine is 5V/1.0A and it will take approximately 1 hour to fully charge the battery.

When first placed on charge, the OLED screen will illuminate and the rectangular color changing LED will flash red, yellow and green and then flash red 3 times. After approximately 3 seconds the OLED display will extinguish but the rectangular LED will remain illuminated throughout the charging cycle.

This rectangular LED bar shows red for approximately 48 minutes and will then change color to green for a further 7 minutes, after which time the LED will extinguish and full charge is achieved. This gives a total charging time of 55 minutes.

The Trine does have ‘pass-through’ therefore you’re able to charge and vape at the same time.

During the charging cycle, the body of the Trine only gets slightly warm to the touch. I would however recommend charging this and any other vape mod or pod on a non-flammable surface.

As with any vape device, NEVER leave it unattended whilst charging.

The Innokin Trine vape kit has just been released to market and is currently retailing around the $25 / £20 mark, although I have seen a couple of lower offers online so do shop around.

This is a great performing vape kit and considering it comes with a spare 0.8 ohm pod and a charging cable, not forgetting the added advantage of a replaceable battery pack, it’s a great price.

We feel the Trine, because of its replaceable battery pack, is going to pave the way forward for other vape brands to follow suit. We’ve listed a few UK retailers who are currently selling the Trine kit and the replaceable pods and battery pack.

·Vape Club: Trine Kit = £17.99. Vcap Pods = £2.99
·Vampire Vape: Trine Kit = £21.99
·Electronic Cigarette Company: Trine Kit = £16.99
·Royal Flush Vape: Trine Kit = £17.99. Vcap Pods = £2.99

Innokin Trine Pod System Vape Kit Summary

The Innokin Trine pod system, while ticking all the boxes in terms of functionality and performance that you’d expect from a quality cost effective pod kit, blew us away with the rechargeable and replaceable battery pack.

I always favor external battery devices on the bigger and more complex pods/mods for the simple reason of longevity of use and being able to swap the battery out while I’m on the go. The Trine battery pack is such a brilliant concept and works really well.

6W – 25W variable wattage control with variable airflow is more than enough for the top fill Vcap pods which give great results in respect to flavor, vapor and draw. The OLED display combined with the color changing LED details everything you need to know. Apart from my two minor niggles of no lock/unlock function and puff counter, it’s a fantastic pod device with a very good price tag!
