Innokin Proton Plex Review – Stylish & Compact

The Innokin brand is perhaps best known for its small mods with internal batteries.

However, their latest addition to their range is the Proton Plex, a dual 18650 battery mod with a large colour screen, joystick-powered controls and a stylish, compact form.

Sold both separately and in a kit packaged with the Innokin Scion II tank, this device comes in a choice of three appealing colours – rainbow, silver and black.

Innokin Proton Plex Kit

The Innokin Proton Plex kit comes with everything you need to start vaping except the batteries.

These will need to be purchased separately.

The Proton mod is supplied in the box along with the Innokin Scion II tank that comes with a pre-installed 0.36-ohm coil.

You’ll also receive a spare 5ml glass tube and a spare drip tip and o-rings set together with a USB charging cable, a vape band and a user manual.

It may not be the best-stocked starter kit on the market, but once you’ve bought your 18650 batteries, you’ll be good to vape to your heart’s content.

Design and Build

The Proton Plex certainly has a unique appearance, primarily due to the large display screen featured on its side and its joystick controls.

The mod’s shape is relatively standard with its rectangular design.

However, it has cut corners and a textured design on its reverse as well as its firing bar along its left edge, which makes it stand out from the crowd.

The tank complements the appearance of the mod perfectly while the resin drip tip adds the ideal finishing touch.

The 1.45” colour screen display is well-presented, so you can see at a glance all of the details of your vaping set up.

There are two icons to show the remaining battery life, and you can even adjust the screen’s main colour from blue to purple, green, pink, red or white.

An especially unique feature of this device is its joystick controls that can be used to adjust the settings and to navigate the menu.

Found just under the display screen, it moves to the right and left as well as down and up.

While it might sound confusing, in fact, it’s surprisingly easy to use – moving it in the direction of your choice is fairly intuitive and the click that can be heard on each movement indicates that you’ve been successful in the adjustment.

The firing bar may not be entirely unique, but it’s pleasant to use thanks to its squeeze-to-fire operation.

This mod has faultless performance when using in wattage mode.

It’s incredibly responsive – you’ll barely notice any delay at all between pushing down the fire bar and the mod firing up.

It works well through the entire wattage range too, and with a Plexus coil, you’ll enjoy great vapour production and exceptional flavour whatever wattage you choose to vape at.

With the inbuilt Scion coil, the flavour produced isn’t quite as strong, but it’s still good enough to satisfy all but the most picky and demanding vaper.

In TC mode, the Proton also works extremely well.

Its intuitive layout and easy wattage adjustment make it a breeze to adjust the temperature control functionality, so it suits your vaping preferences.

You’ll barely notice any drop-off when you get to the top temperatures, and your vape will be consistently smooth all through each draw.

The Proton’s battery compartment can be accessed quickly and easily via a swinging door located on the base of the device.

You can open it easily by using the indent found on the door to push the door out, so it swings from the hinge.

In the compartment, you find negative and positive labels so you’ll have no difficulty in putting the batteries in the right way round.

There are also corresponding labels found next to the contacts underneath the door.

Unfortunately, the batteries don’t come supplied in this device kit, which is a little disappointing but not unexpected.

However, when you pair this mod with some of the top-performing batteries on the market today, you’re sure to enjoy a long lifespan and great long-term performance.

Box Mod

The Innokin Proton 235 watt box mod measures 85mm in height with a width of 44.6mm and a height of 29.6mm.

It uses dual high-amp 18650 batteries, but as already mentioned, these will need to be purchased separately.

The wattage output range extends from 6 watts right up to 235 watts while the voltage output ranges from 1 volt up to 7.5 volts.

The temperatures can be adjusted between 300 degrees Fahrenheit up to 600 degrees.

This device is compatible with atomiser resistances of down to 0.05-ohm, making it a great choice for sub-ohm vapers and there is a comprehensive range of modes to choose from including curve and bypass modes.

The device features a large 1.45-inch full-colour display and can be recharged via the micro USB port with a 2 amp maximum charge.
