Innokin MVP Pod Kit Review / Dual Activated and Dual Power Levels With Impressive Performance

When we first heard Innokin were releasing an MVP pod, our thoughts instantly went back to the good old days of the original MVP 11W box mod that took the world by storm. Since then, the MVP range of mods has gone from strength to strength ending in the acclaimed MVP 5.0 Ajax kit, regarded as the Swiss Army knife of vaping devices.
I own and still use the original MVP box mod but sadly don’t have any of their later MVP releases so was very pleased when Innokin asked us to review their new MVP pod. I hope Innokin read this review as I’d love reviewing the MPV 5.0 Ajax kit… (did I really just say that)!!!
While we were hoping it would follow in the same vein of quality and reliability, Innokin specified they wanted to go back to basics with this latest MVP release with a simple and user friendly pod. This is definitely that and first impressions didn’t disappoint.
Interestingly, Innokin are marketing this new MVP pod kit under the banner of “Why Smoke” with a focus on keeping it simple for new vapers and transitioning smokers. Well done Innokin, something that is close to my heart since switching to vaping 7 years ago.
The Innokin MVP Pod Kit is a dual power level 11W/12.5W draw and push button activated Mouth to Lung (MTL) pod device incorporating an internal 500mAh re-chargeable battery. Made out of zinc alloy, it comes in 6 different colors with striking front and back side panels.
Primarily aimed at the new vaper market, it’s discrete, straightforward to use yet provides enough power and flavor from the integrated coil to satisfy all vapers alike.
E-liquid capacity of the pod is 2ml (TPD) and 2.7ml (standard) and re-fillable via the side filling port. The 0.65 ohm coil is an integral part of the pod meaning it’s not replaceable. When the coil degrades, the pod is disposed of and a new pod fitted.
Airflow is non-adjustable with 2 very small fixed pin holes in the side panels which provided a semi airy Mouth To Lung (MTL) style vape. Charging the MVP pod is carried out using the supplied charging cable that connects to the Type-C USB port on the side of the device.
The two power levels are selectable by the push button firing switch which incorporates a color changing LED that illuminates around the outside of the button in red or green depending on the power level you select. This LED will also illuminate when you draw on the pod, indicates the battery status and displays the charging status of the battery.
This new Innokin MVP pod kit is a very well made, simple to use no fuss plug and play device and despite its simplicity, doesn’t lack in performance.

With regards to the packaging, Innokin are the leaders in supplying their products in 100% recyclable cardboard. This also includes cardboard inserts that secure the product in place and a spare pod which is housed in a thick paper sachet.
This is something we first observed when we reviewed Innokin’s Coolfire Z80 Mod Kit a few months ago and definitely feel other manufacturers should be following their example.
                         
Innokin MVP Pod Kit Design and Appearance
The MPV Body
The Innokin MVP pod is a small compact dual wattage draw and fire button activated vape pod and is constructed out of zinc alloy. Its shape is a slim rectangular design measuring 107.88mm tall, 22.66mm wide by 13.8mm deep and weighs in at a mere 49.35 grams.
                                 
Despite its size and weight, it feels very robust, very well designed and definitely resembles the quality and feel of its predecessors.
Delivering two different power levels, selectable by pressing the fire button twice in quick succession, 11W is set when the LED around the fire button illuminates green and 12.5W is set when the LED illuminates red.
The MVP pod kit incorporates an internal 500mAh internal battery and is charged via the Type-C USB port on the side of the MVP pod body, specified as 5V/0.65A. Charging time will take under 1 hour to fully charge the internal battery while the LED around the power select/fire button indicates the battery charge status.
Fast draw/fire button activation is achieved by the on-board chip set, which also ensure the multitude of safety features are maintained, such as:

The overall color surface finishes on the different MVP pod bodies are superb. Two different casing are available, a black semi-matte finish on the Ocean Waves, Space Grey and Stealth Black while the semi-matte stainless steel finish can be seen on the Pink Fade, Liquid Amber and Blue Fade designs.
Each colored front and back side panel which have a slightly bevelled edge to them really do stand out and look impressive. These are reflective color grading on the Pink and Blue variants, stealth options with the Grey and Black versions, or vibrant detailed designs with the Liquid Amber and Ocean Waves.
Branding is very discrete and printed onto the front and back panels in a silver color. On the front panel (power select/fire button) side are the words “MVP” towards the bottom of the MVP pod body. The back side panel has the words “Innokin” again towards the bottom of the MVP pod body.
The power select/fire button is a flush mounted rectangular push button, measuring approximately 8mm x 7mm with a small black surround that houses the color changing LED.  This LED illuminates (2 colors) when you draw on the pod, charge the MVP pod or it’s displaying the different levels of protection.
There is no adjustable airflow on the MVP body or pod but it does have two very small fixed pinholes, one on each side of the side casing, which provides the optimum MTL draw. Placing your finger or thumb over one of these holes while drawing will restrict the airflow if you want to tighten the draw.
On the base of the MVP pod body are the usual printed CE markings together with the battery capacity, 500mAh and 1.85Wh. The bottom of the MVP pod body is flat and therefore will stand on a flat surface. It’s nice that Innokin placed the charging port on the side so the MVP can remain upright.
The top of the MVP has a very deep (30mm) recessed opening for the pod to be located in with two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins and two magnets that line up with the pod. There is also a smaller stainless steel flat pin which I take to be the auto draw sensor. 
The Pod
The MVP pod is re-fillable with a 2ml (TPD) or 2.7ml (standard) e-liquid capacity and has an integrated 0.65 ohm coil. The coil is sealed into the pod and is not replaceable so once the coil degrades the whole pod will need replacing.
  
 
Manufactured out of tinted PCTG material, the pod has a duck bill type mouthpiece which tapers down to an oval opening with a circular 5mm centre section chimney leading down into the coil. This provides the ideal MTL vape style.
The MVP pod is a side filling design with the opening concealed behind a flush fitting black silicone rubber plug. To gain access to the fill port, the pod has to be removed from the MVP body. This plug has an indented arrow on it which identifies which end is to be lifted away to gain access to the filling port.
When the plug is opened the other end of the silicone rubber flap will remain attached to the pod so it won’t get lost. The filling hole is a pretty decent size allowing for most e-liquid tip bottles.
On the underside of the pod are the two gold plated coil contacts with a small air intake hole between them and two small outer contacts that locate against the magnets in the MVP body. The pod can be fitted either way round and simply slides into the recessed opening of the MVP body and is secured with the magnetic contacts.
The MVP pod is quite long in length and does fit approximately 30mm into the MVP body. Once the pod is located, the LED will illuminate for 2 seconds to let you know the pod has made contact with the body and is ready for use.
I did notice that even though the pod locates against the magnets, you can lightly press the pod down into the body a further 0.5mm which holds the pod even more securely.
During the time I’ve been using the MVP pod kit there were NO leaks or any condensation on the base of the pod or around the recessed contact pins. The pod also fits securely and doesn’t rattle or wobble. Considering the design means it’s replaceable when the coil degrades, it really is made very well.
Observation
Even though the tint on the pod is pretty clear, when using the 2ml version pod, you have to remove the pod from the MVP body to see the level of e-liquid that’s remaining. This is due to the silicone rubber bung placed between the mouthpiece and e-liquid reservoir.
This stops the e-liquid from entering the mouthpiece section. The e-liquid reservoir in the pod sits below the top of the outer casing of the MVP body so turning the device on its side will not show any e-liquid.
When using the 2.7ml pod, e-liquid can enter the mouthpiece so you will be able to tilt the pod on its side to see the e-liquid level while it’s attached to the MVP body.
Innokin MVP Pod Kit Functionality
The Innokin MVP pod kit is very simple and straightforward to use.  Quite simply, all you have to worry about is charging the device, make sure you keep the pod topped up with your favourite e-liquid, settle on your desired power level….choice of two and enjoy your vaping experience.
The only indication on the MVP pod is the LED around the power select/fire button which lights up when the pod is inserted, lights up when you draw on the device, lights red or green when the two different power levels are selected and illuminates when the MVP pod is on charge.
The on-board chip that controls the Innokin MVP pod maintains a constant output power throughout the discharge cycle of the battery, providing a fast responsive draw activated vape.  This chip also controls the included safety features and provides the visual indication via the LED around the power select/fire button:
·Charging – LED remains constant with the appropriate color (red or green)
·Full charge – LED extinguished
·Current battery status – LED flashes red twice or remains static for 2 seconds
·Pod inserted – LED illuminates for 2 seconds
·Low battery – LED flashes red 8 times
·No Pod/Short circuit – LED flashes green 5 times
·Overtime protection – LED flashes green 10 times
Turning the MVP Pod On/Off
To turn on the MVP pod, press the power select/fire button 3 times in quick succession. The LED will flash red then green and extinguish. Equally to turn off the MVP pod, press the Power select/fire button 3 times, the LED will flash green then red and extinguish.
Select Power Levels
                                
Selecting the two different available power levels is carried out by pressing the power select/fire button 2 times in quick succession. The LED will illuminate for two seconds in either red or green:
·Green = 11W
·Red = 12.5W
When you’ve selected your desired power level, every time you fire or draw on the pod the LED will illuminate for the duration of the draw with the corresponding color.
Remaining Battery Charge Status
In order to check the status of the remaining battery charge, you can either press the power select/fire button briefly or draw on the pod. When pressing the button or drawing on the pod, the LED will illuminate as its firing. When you stop drawing/firing, the battery status is then observed on the LED:
·No LED: Battery over 50% (3.65V-4.2V)
·Red LED flashes twice: Battery under 10% (3.30V-3.50V)
·Red LED illuminated for 2 seconds: Battery between 10%-50% (3.50V-3.65V)
When the battery becomes fully discharged, the LED will flash red 8 times. At this point, you will no longer be able to vape and the battery will require charging.
Battery Charging Status
When the MVP pod is placed on charge, the color changing LED will highlight the status and duration of the battery charge cycle:
·Red LED: Battery below 90% of charge
·Green LED: Battery 90% charged
·No LED: Fully charged
The MVP pod does have Pass-Through so you can vape on the pod while it’s being charged.
I did notice while it was charging that the 90% cut-over of the LED color status was more like 50%. The Red LED illuminated for approximately 30 minutes and then turned Green for the remaining 30 minutes. I’m assuming that the 90% limit is probably just a typo.
Auto Draw and Fire Button Activation
Even though the MVP is both draw activated and fire button activated, there is no way to select one or the other modes. They are both always enabled. In my opinion this does make the fire button redundant but I guess if auto draw plays up, you always have the option of using the fire button in this case.
Overtime Protection
When your draw on the MVP pod for longer than 10 seconds, the LED will flash green 10 times and the vape will be disabled.
Innokin MVP Pod Performance
As with most MTL vape pods, freebase or nicotine salts with a PG/VG ratio of 50/50 is recommended because of the smaller wicking ports and lower power. Using high VG e-liquid is likely to clog up the wicking ports in the coil leading to dry hits which will destroy the coil.
When first using a new pod, I would recommend filling the pod with your e-liquid and leave it to stand for 10-15 minutes to allow the e-liquid to saturate into the wick before vaping. Equally, when you’re ready to start vaping on your new pod, set the power level (wattage) to the lowest setting (11W / green LED) for the first few draws to slowly bed your new pod in. This will improve the longevity of the pod before it needs replacing.
Having filled the pod with 6mg freebase nic Mango Ice and waited for 15 minutes for the wick to fully saturate, my first draw on the pod was pleasantly surprising. With the power level set to 11W, the flavor came through straight away with a pretty decent throat hit.
Considering the wattage was set at the low power setting of 11W, the flavor was very crisp and the menthol ice did kick in giving more than expected dense vapor.
The draw was not tight or restrictive, more of an airy MTL vape. Placing my thumb over one of the fixed airflow holes restricted the draw slightly and if I’m honest was my preferred option. Irrespective of auto drawing on the pod, or using the fire button, the vape intensity produced the same crisp flavor with good dense vapor.  
Selecting the higher power setting, 12.5W (red LED), did slightly increase the warmth of the vape, the flavor improved and throat hit appeared slightly more prominent.
Switching my e-liquid to 20mg nic salts on the 11W power setting gave the same great flavor but really did improve the throat hit and nicotine delivery. My preference when using this pod would be to use Nicotine Salts for that instant nicotine hit.
The performance from the pod/coil was very good and the auto draw activation was faultless.  Because the draw activation worked so well, I found I didn’t use the fire button that often.
At the time of writing this review, I’ve cycled approximately 80ml of e-liquid through the pod and the coil is showing no signs of faltering with no loss of flavor.
Innokin MVP Pod Kit Battery Performance
The Innokin MVP pod kit is powered by an internal 500mAh battery. Charging time is pretty impressive, taking approximately 60 minutes to fully charge via the on board 0.65 amp (650mA) Type-C USB charger/cable.
As a medium to heavy vaper, when set to low power (11W) I was achieving a good 10 hours vaping from a fully charged battery. Increasing the power level to 12.5W did reduce the vape time slightly before charging the battery was required.
The LED provides a visual indication of the remaining battery charge so you can keep an eye on what the battery is doing.  After drawing on the pod, the LED will highlight one of three conditions:
·No LED: Battery over 50% (3.65V-4.2V)
·Red LED flashes twice: Battery under 10% (3.30V-3.50V)
·Red LED illuminated for 2 seconds: Battery between 10%-50% (3.50V-3.65V)
Once the LED flashes red 10 times, you will no longer be able to vape and will have to re-charge the battery.
How Do I Fill The MVP Pod?
The Innokin MVP pod is a side fill design. You’ll have to remove the pod from the MVP body in order to fill with e-liquid. Simply hold the MVP body with one hand grasp the pod with your other hand and pull the pod away from the MVP body.
 
The fill port is located on one side of the pod and is concealed behind a black silicon rubber flap. This flap sits flush with the side of the pod. A small arrow highlights which part of the rubber flap lifts away but for reference, it’s the end located towards the bottom of the pod. This silicone rubber flap is attached to the pod so there’s no chance of it getting lost.
Because the fill port opening is pretty wide, it’ll accept those larger e-liquid/shortfill bottles.
Pull open the flap and insert your e-liquid drip tip into the opening. Tilt the pod on its side to aid filling and to get the maximum amount of e-liquid into the pod. Once filled, re-insert the silicon rubber flap making sure the fill port is securely re-seated.
Re-insert the pod into the MVP body till it’s held in place by the magnetic catches.
Quick Tip: If you are filling the pod for the first time, once filled, leave to stand for approx. 10-15 minutes before you start to vape. This will help saturate the wick fully in e-liquid and help prolong the life of the coil/pod.
When and How Do I Change The MVP Pod?
Because the MVP pod has a fixed 0.65 ohm coil and is NOT replaceable, when the coil starts to degrade after a couple of weeks use, the pod will need to be discarded and a new pod fitted.
An indication of the coil degrading will show by either a loss of flavor or a lack of vapor. Continuing beyond this loss of flavor/vapor will finally result in a severe nasty burnt taste. At this stage, discard the pod and fit a new one.
Equally, if the MVP displays “No Pod” or “Short Circuit” as highlighted by the LED flashing green 5 times, a new pod will need to be fitted.
Pull the pod away from the MVP body, discard and fit a new pod. Unfortunately if you still have e-liquid in the pod, this will have to be discarded as well.
When fitting a new pod, follow the procedure for How Do I Fill The Pod. As you insert the pod into the MVP body, the LED will illuminate for 2 seconds to identify the pod has been fitted.
How Do I Charge The Innokin MVP Pod?
Using the supplied Type-C USB charging cable, plug the cable into the USB port on the side of the MVP body. Connect the other end into a suitable power source (typically 5V/1A).
Whilst charging, the LED around the power select/fire button will illuminate identifying that the device is on charge.
When first placed on charge, the LED will illuminate red in color. After approximately 30 minutes, the LED will turn green. This green LED will remain illuminated and static for a further 30 minutes until it has become fully charged.
Once fully charged, the green LED will extinguish indicating the charge cycle has completed.
Charging time takes approximately 60 minutes to fully charge the battery using the supplied charging cable and an appropriate charging source. One plus point worth mentioning is the device while on charge remained cool to the touch.
The MVP pod kit does have a ‘pass-through” facility therefore you can vape while it’s being charged.
As always, NEVER leave your vape device unattended while on charge.
Innokin MVP Pod Kit Price
Because of its design, build quality, performance and simplicity, if you’re after a no fuss pod kit and not interested in replaceable coils, the Innokin MVP pod kit ticks all the boxes.
Expect to pay in the region of £20/$20 for the Kit. Because at the time of writing the Innokin MVP pod kit has only just been released, there may be limited stockists so do search around and hopefully you get a good deal.

Innokin MVP Pod Kit Summary
The Innokin MVP pod kit is a very well built device. It looks impressive and feels comfortable and tactile in the hand. Its 500mAh internal battery is pretty decent for the size of the pod kit and did last a lot longer than I expected. Flavor and vapor from such a small discreet pod kit was also very good.
Because of its simplicity, the MVP pod kit is aimed more as a new user’s vape kit or someone looking at switching from smoking. Saying this, I would be more than happy taking this out with me for an evening or vaping it throughout the day.
The MTL style vape with its auto draw was faultless. Because of the trusted brand name of Innokin, coupled with the known quality of their products, I have no problem in recommending this kit.
I feel Innokin have ticked all the boxes with this pod and have produced exactly what they were trying to achieve, a simply no fuss hassle free pod kit.
