How to save money when you’re a vaper

One of the big draws for anyone trying to give up smoking, is how much cheaper it is to vape. The NHS smoking calculator reckons even a 5-a-day smoker will spend up to £900 per year on cigs, whereas a vaper might spend on average £20 per month on e-liquids and devices, which amounts to £240. That’s already a saving of around £660. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us…
But are there other ways to save money as a vaper? There certainly are, and here are a couple of ways you can cut down the costs and still enjoy a vaping lifestyle.

Buy Short Fill E-Liquids
Short fills - also known as shake ‘n’ vapes - are a popular choice for the money saving vaper. Short fills are purposefully only partly full so you can add your own shot of nicotine at a strength that suits you. Short fills are cheaper than e-liquids with nicotine in them, and means you can switch up your flavours throughout the month, so you won’t get bored too easily.

Hunt Out Bargains
Most e-liquid and vape manufacturers will have special offers and discount sales on at some point. Sign up to e-newsletters and follow your favourite brands on social media to be the first to hear about any bargains you could take advantage of. Many new brands to the market also offer their e-liquids at introductory prices to build a buzz around them, so it’s worth stocking up.

Take Care Of Your Coils
Vape coils are one of those unavoidable recurring costs for a vaper. Replacing your coils is inevitable, but did you know there are a couple of hacks for making sure your coils need to be replaced less frequently?
First of all, extend your coil’s lifespan by priming them before adding them to your device. The way to do this is by saturating the wick when you replace a coil, then taking a couple of dry hits (don’t press the fire button) to siphon the vape juice into the cotton. The next step is to start vaping with your replacement coil at a slightly lower wattage than normal - this eases in the wire expansion.
You should also clean your vape coil regularly. Getting rid of the gunk that accumulates will both help your coil live longer, and let you enjoy a fresher vaping experience.

Make Pals With Other Vapers
Ever taken a punt on an e-liquid only to find it tastes pretty damn horrible? We all have our own preferences for e-liquid flavours and one person’s Dom Perignon may be another’s drain water.
This is where being friends with other vapers comes in really handy. Provided they are generous friends, they’ll probably let you try out their e-liquid to see if you like it before you buy. After all, that’s what friends are for.

Buy Quality Devices
Whether you’re into serious sub-ohming or enjoy a simple e-cig, the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ has never been more true. Invest in a quality, reputable vape device and always buy from recognised brands to make sure your vape lasts for years to come. A little bit more initial outlay will always pay off in the long run, with a device you can rely on not to stop working or need replaced within a couple of months.
