Does Vaping Hurt Oral Health Like Smoking Does?

It has been long known that smoking can cause a variety of problems to one's oral health. It can lead to bad breath, gum diseases, stained teeth, and more that people wish smoking did not cause. For that reason, many people have started to consider vaping over smoking, believing that it provides a healthier alternative and does not wreak havoc onto their oral health. Is this true? Let’s find out.

Vaping and Bad Breath
The leading cause of bad breath from smoking is caused by the tar that is found in its makeup. However, vaping does not contain any tar whatsoever. It does not have any other chemical either that can cause bad breath. Plus, the fact that vape juices come with a variety of flavours means that it can add a pleasing scent.

Nevertheless, the main point here is that vaping does not cause bad breath because it does not contain any chemicals that can cause it.

Vaping and Stained Teeth
Tar is another well-known culprit to stained teeth, causing your pearly whites to turn yellow and even brown if left untreated. Again, vaping does not contain tar and thus does not cause stained teeth. One can vape for months and even years without having to deal with stained teeth. If the teeth do seem to yellow, it is highly likely that it was already yellow before, or perhaps another habit is causing it.

Vaping and Gum Disease
While smoking causes a wide range of gum diseases due to all the harmful chemicals it contains, vaping is free from any of that. The only thing a vape juice contains is PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerin), flavouring, and nicotine in some. All of these are safe for intake and do not directly cause gum disease.

Note that any present diseases will continue to damage the gum, and if you have already been found to have gum disease already, it is highly recommended that you receive professional dental care.

Vaping and Bacterial Growth
Smoking emits thousands of different chemicals into your mouth and lung, most of which can hinder your immune system. As a result, this can lead to bacterial growth and build-up, which leads to further complications. On the other hand, vaping does not emit those. There is no tar and none of the thousands of chemicals that are found in a cigarette.

Put simply, the makeup of a vape juice and the way it creates a vapour does not promote bacterial growth.

Conclusion
Whether it is the bad breath you are worried about or even oral cancer, you can rest easy knowing that vaping causes none of these. That being said, if you were previously a smoker, note that vaping will not precisely cure these problems. You will need to likely visit a dentist to help address the problem if you want to recover your oral health. On that note, vaping will not cause any of these problems to come back, meaning you can enjoy vaping in tons of different flavours and enjoy the nicotine high you are used to without worry!
