Can Vaping Cause Headaches & If So How Do You Stop Them?

Vaping & Headaches
Can vaping cause headaches? It’s a question on many a vaper’s mind (perhaps quite literally!) so we decided to delve into the issue and help shed some light on whether there is indeed a link between vaping and headaches.

Headaches are never fun, and a particularly bad one could quite easily write you off for the rest of the day. That’s why it’s always important to get to the bottom of the issue if you’re suffering from frequent headaches.

So could your vape be the cause of your pounding head, and if so how do we prevent it? Read on to find out…

Can Vaping Cause Headaches?
Let’s start by answering the all-important question: can vaping cause headaches? The answer is yes, it can. So if you’re experiencing pain or tension in your head whenever you vape then there’s a good chance it’s linked to your e-cig.

But why can vaping cause headaches and how do we prevent it? Well, thankfully the explanation is pretty straightforward, and what’s even better is the issue should be quite easy to fix!

Why Does Vaping Cause Headaches?
So now we know vaping can in fact give you a headache, here’s the million dollar question: why? Well, let’s start answering this by saying that if you’re getting headaches after vaping then there’s a very good chance the e-liquid you’re vaping contains nicotine.

The reason we’re quite confident about this is headaches are actually one of the side-effects some people get when they use nicotine.

Nicotine is a stimulant that has a unique effect on your nervous system, and it can have a number of effects, including:

·Decreased appetite
·Heightened mood
·Increased heart rate and blood pressure
·Nausea
·Headache
·Diarrhea
·Improved memory
·Increased alertness
·Dizziness

If you’ve experienced any of the effects listed above since you’ve been vaping, then it could well be due to the nicotine in your e-liquid. However, with that said, it’s true that most people who use vape devices don’t experience any unpleasant side-effects, so why are you getting headaches?

Why Does Vaping Give Me a Headache?
Nicotine is known to narrow the blood vessels in your brain, which is one reason why some people get headaches after they vape. If you’re someone who’s already prone to headaches then your risk of experiencing one after vaping is much higher.

The answer could also lie in the length of time you’ve been vaping and/or smoking. If you’ve just started regularly using nicotine products then you could well be experiencing headaches or other unwanted effects simply because your body isn’t used to this brand-new chemical you’ve introduced it to.

Maybe you haven’t vaped or smoked for a while and you’ve recently started again? Or perhaps you’ve upped the strength of your vape juice or started vaping nic salts? If so then this could well explain the headaches.

Other Potential Causes

·Dehydration – Vaping can cause a dry mouth and dehydration so be sure to drink plenty of fluids as it’ll help you avoid headaches
·Propylene glycol – Although it’s recognised as safe and found in a wide range of everyday products, some people do report a sensitivity to PG and one of the side-effects is often headaches
·E-liquid ingredients – Just the taste or scent of some things can cause headaches for some, so if all else fails then maybe a new flavour could fix the issue

How to Stop Headaches from Vaping
If you’re concerned about vaping headaches then there are a few things you can do to help avoid them. Again, staying hydrated will reduce your chances of getting a headache, while vaping in moderation should also help as it’ll limit the amount of nicotine in your system which will mean there’s less chance of experiencing unwanted side-effects.

With that said, if you’re someone who has a predisposition to headaches then sadly there might not be a lot you can do to avoid them. Some types of headaches such as migraines are hereditary so if you suffer from these then you might be best off just avoiding nicotine.

How Long Do Vape Headaches Last?
If you’re experiencing a headache from vaping then it could last for anything from a few minutes to a few hours. It’s actually difficult to say with any certainty how long a vaping headache will take to pass but there are a few things you can do to try to shift it quicker.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids as dehydration could be playing a key role, and if you feel a headache coming on then avoid using your vape until it’s passed.
