6 Reasons Why Your Vape Tastes Bad
A Closer Look at Why You Vape Tastes Bad
Without a doubt one of the best things about vaping is the vast array of delicious flavours to enjoy. Whether you’re a fruit-fanatic, dessert devotee or a candy connoisseur, with literally hundreds of different varieties to choose from, you’re never more than a press of a button away from indulging in your favourite flavour.
But with that said, in some cases there may be an issue with your e-liquid or device which means your vape tastes bad. If the taste of your vape has suddenly dropped, this has the potential to completely spoil your vaping experience.
The good news is the remedy for these issues is usually straight-forward, and with a little know-how you should be on the road to enjoying your favourite flavours again in next to no time!
So to help you get to the bottom of why your vape tastes bad, here are the 6 most common reasons for that less-than-optimum flavour.
Coil Needs Changing
This one might seem obvious, but you’d be amazed by the number of people who continue to vape long after their coils are spent!
Coils that are way past their lifespan are often to blame when a vape tastes bad, so this should be your first port of call when trying to diagnose the issue.
You can usually tell when your coil needs changing by how your vape tastes. If the flavour’s just slightly underwhelming then take this as a sign it’ll soon be time for a replacement. On the other hand, if your vape tastes burnt or dirty then you’re going to need a new coil pronto!
Testing whether your coil is to blame is straightforward. First you need to inspect your coil. Coils are built with white cotton wrapped around (or inside) the metal. After a while the cotton will become spent and start to turn darker. If you have a bad tasting vape and discover your cotton is really dark, it’s time for a new one!
Secondly, as with all goods, the coil might just not be working as well as it should. In this case just try out a brand-new coil to see how it tastes – if it’s still not up to scratch then you know it’s something else.
Vape Tongue
Depending on how long you’ve been vaping, vape tongue (also known as vaper’s tongue) may or may not be something you’re familiar with.
If this isn’t a phenomenon you’ve experienced yet then lucky you! In short, vape tongue is the term we use to describe a sudden inability to taste your vape. This can be caused by a number of things but the most common reason is a dehydrated mouth which affects your taste buds and prevents you from enjoying your vape to the fullest.
The best way to avoid this is by simply keeping yourself hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will prevent your mouth from becoming dry, which helps stave off the dreaded vape tongue.
Another reason for a sudden drop could be flavour fatigue, where the constant bombardment of your taste buds means they need a little break. To solve this problem all you need to do is switch up your flavours to appreciate the nuances of your e-liquid again. Alternatively, if you’re trying a lot of different flavours in succession, a good cup of coffee will “cleanse” your palate ready for your senses to appreciate the flavour again.
The Buildup of bacteria on the tongue may also be to blame. To avoid this, just give your tongue a little brush every once in a while and you should be appreciating that full flavour soon enough.
Heavy Vaping
If you’re a ‘go hard or go home’ type of vaper, the way you’re using your device might well be responsible if your vape tastes bad.
Hitting your vape relentlessly all day long may seem like a good idea, but you’ll go through your coils like there’s no tomorrow meaning that underwhelming flavour is never too far away.
We aren’t saying you need to limit the amount you vape, but if you’re someone who’s puffing away non-stop then it might be wise to give your flavour receptors a break from time to time.
Flavour Ghosting
Variety is the spice of life, but if you’re someone who likes to frequently switch up your flavours, this may well be the root cause of that weird taste in your vape.
Switching from one flavour to the next is great if you like a bit of variety, but unless you give your kit a good clean between flavours then remnants of the previous e-liquid will still be present when you top-up with a new juice. This is known as “flavour ghosting”.
Depending on the flavours you’re using, the results can range from the delicious to the downright disgusting!
For instance, if you’ve been vaping a Lemon flavour, reaching for another fruity number like Orange or Blackcurrant Squash should make for a surprisingly flavoursome mix. However, fill up your device with a tobacco e-liquid after you’ve been vaping Birthday Cake and the results might not be so pleasant!
Poor Maintenance
Following on from the last point, flavour ghosting may also occur if you fail to properly maintain your device.
Not replacing your pods when you should and failing to clean your device often enough will mean residual e-liquid will gradually start to accumulate. Before long it’ll seriously start to affect the flavour of your vape.
If you’ve been a tad lazy with the upkeep of your vape kit, try to keep on top of maintenance. The longer you leave it the harder it’ll be to remove the gunk when you finally decide to get round to it, and giving it a good clean every now and then will make a world of difference to the flavour.
Poor-Quality E-Liquid
If you’ve gone through this list and nothing seems to be working, chances are it’s the e-liquid you’re using that’s to blame.
Low-quality e-liquids can leave a nasty taste in your mouth, and even those that don’t taste too bad the first time you use them can spoil quickly, morphing from a product that’s half-palatable into something completely un-vapable practically overnight!
The only way to avoid this is by purchasing your e-liquid from a trusted, reputable seller that’s renowned for producing high-quality products.
